This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Effective Use of Social Media in Online Courses --> Blogging

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

Older students may fight you on this idea of social networking in a class that isn't directly worried about social networking.  Faculty have to be able to sell this to students.

Blogging can be a classroom tool to promote educational objectives and classroom communication. By providing clarity and purpose to assignments in a blogging environment, students may be more apt to complete the tasks.

In this unit, I learned that blogging is an effective way to support reflective learning and knowledge sharing in online courses. Unlike microblogging, blogs allow for longer, more detailed posts where students can express ideas, analyze readings, or connect theory to practice. Blogging also helps build digital literacy, since students learn how to communicate in an online public space.

One of the key benefits is that blogs encourage critical thinking and collaboration. Students can publish their reflections, and classmates can comment, providing peer feedback and creating a dialogue. Over time, this develops a sense of ownership and an archive of learning that students can revisit.

I intend to apply this by assigning students a reflective blog where they summarize what they have learned each week and connect it with real-life experiences. I also plan to use blogs for group projects, so that teams can document their process, challenges, and solutions.

We have to keep up with the times, so blogging is definitely a great addition for the students to engage and learn.

Blogs are a great way to promote another form of classroom engagement.

Blogging has come a long way from being an online diary to becoming a powerful tool for communication, education, and advocacy. However, blogging also requires consistency, clarity, and purpose.

Blogging is another form of communication that may be a fun way for students to communicate

Our students have an area in there lessons that they can “show what they know” and it is open for comment, in a sense blogging.

Blogging can help students express themselves.

Encouraging students to share blog ideas may boost class engagement and productivity by making the activity more relevant and giving them a sense of ownership.

This topic was very informative

Blogging is a great publishing tool for writers and artist to get their work out to the masses and become self published. I love blogs especially the cooking ones. They come in a variety of content / genres they  are very resourceful.

Comment on Linda Silva's post: I agree. The sample rubrics are very helpful.

When my students write research papers, I encourage them by reminding them that this is their own unique synthesis, their own work. This material affirms that blogging does this too, and I agree. The respect they can get from other students and the instructor is very meaningful to students. I believe with adults we sometimes forget this.

Blogging gives students an effective way to communicate with peers.

That blogging gives students the ability to learn from anywhere and gives them their own creative voice and others opinions on their topic of education.

Blogging allows students to voice their opinions and view the opinions of others.  This leads to team work and great brain storming.

Blogging is an effective way for students to communicate freely

Blogging may allow a student to express themselves more freely an openly.
