Effective assessments are clear, fair, and actually measure what you’re trying to teach, not just what’s easy to test. Creating assessments that match real tasks and use straightforward questions or performance checks so students can show what they truly understand.
Their are several types of testing with multiple choice being the most common. They all have pros and cons. Some testing works better for different individuals. Some applications will require a certain type of test.

This module help me understand the different types of test options and with options will be most effective for students.
An excellent assessment will demonstrate what students have learned in class.
I learned that creating effective assessments isn’t just about testing knowledge—it’s about making sure the assessments actually reflect what students are expected to learn. I learned the importance of aligning assessments with learning objectives and using a variety of formats so different learners have a chance to show what they know. I plan to apply this by designing assessments that are clear, relevant, and fair, and by using them as a tool to help guide instruction and support student learning, not just to assign a grade.

When choosing an assessment format make sure that it is fair, accurate, and allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise.
Students need to assess well....period. Anxiety from test taking? Take ore tests. Prepare more. Studies have shown the more prepared you are the less anxious your become. So maybe the question becomes how can we show them so they know they are prepared or not?
Multiple choice questions are effective in covering a wider amount of material. I disagree with the comment that standardized tests may be used to save time and effort. Rather, standardized tests are effective in evaluating the course objectives and instructional approaches in settings where students must take and pass comprehensive licensing exams.
