Effective Teaching Strategies --> Delivering Course Content
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
I learned that students learn in different ways (written word, auditory, visuals, tactile). It is good to incorporate different learning styles in your course to engage all students. Lecturing with case studies or demonstrations helps keep students interacting and asking questions.
Be prepared, be mindful of your delivery and monitor for loss of attention spans.
I learned that delivering course content effectively means keeping things clear, organized, and engaging so students can actually connect with the material. Practicing my delivery ahead of time (because practice makes perfect) and staying flexible so I can adjust based on how the class is responding.
Practice, practice, practice!!! We listen four times faster than we speak. An instructor should practice their demostration prior to class. When delivering course material, it is helpful that the instructor incorporate as many learning styles as he/she can to reach their students. Students learn 3 different ways, by trail and error, observation, or learning by doing. This should be kept in mind when provding demostrations in class along with their delivery of lecture material.
I like the idea of splitting the lecture up into maybe two segments as we all know an hour lecture can become boring, which in return the students are not comprehending the information presented. Lecture for 15-20 minutes then go to Lab, then come back for the last 30 minutes of class to finish the lecture.
Love the idea of using the tree with branchers I'm definitely going to use that!
Loved the example of using the tree I'm definitely am going to use it!
When delivering course content, have an organized plan as to the order in which the content should be delivered. This order should demonstrate high-priority concepts being taught, so that one concept builds upon another. By demonstrating a hierarchy of material, the students notice the inherent order and become intrigued as to what comes next. Including images, visual diagrams, lists and pockets of information, this allows a wide variety of students' learning styles to connect with the information, and they can form their own decisions on how best to summarize the material.
I learned that lecture alone is not effective for everyone and mini lecture is affective due to the average adult attention span
We run our program with about 50% lecture and 50% skills lab learning. My college and I have discussed introducing other delivery methods into our program, but we have found that some of the alternative delivery methods are far too time consuming.
Effective teachers should vary the delivery of content so as to create more opportunities for student engagement.
delivery is vital we must spend time with students to learn how to reach them. i sometimes use other students as teachers to help with reaching other students.
I learned that I need to vary my delivery of information and create more opportunities for student discussions.
When going over delivery options I learned that students enjoy having various options when it comes to learning. We have students attention for about 15-18 minutes per lecture and it is important to really focus on keeping that attention to encourage student learning.
Effective teaching means real time feedback.
different methods of demonstration to teach students and why they are effective.
From this module I learned how to structure content effectively by breaking into clear objectives, sequencing lessons logically and selecting appropriate instructional material and activities. I also gained insight into aligning content with student needs, learning styles and real-world applications.
I intend to use this by carefully designing lessons that are organized and relevant
Students learn best by having a varied experience in the classroom. The first step for a successful student experience is to remind them what was taught or brief review from the previous lecture. The next step is to use the various techniques of lecture to instill knowledge. The next step is to have students engage in this material individually or in group mini projects that will allow students to engage in the material and help them understand why it is important and in what context.
Effective content delivery means presenting material in clear, engaging, and varied ways. By breaking content into manageable chunks, using multiple instructional methods, and checking for understanding, I can keep students engaged and support different learning styles while improving overall comprehension.
