Our institution has specific policies in place for the first day introductions for every course. It lays out the entire course for the students and includes a lengthy discussion of what the student can do to receive extra help if necessary. Furthermore there is a anonymous survey passed out at the end of every rotation asking how the student felt about his experience in the course.

Christopher, does the end of rotation survey tie back to the information presented on the first day of class? For example, does it ask how well the content matched the announced objective or whether the student took advantage of the available extra help?

It does as well as asks them "How well has this course met my needs". Followed up with more questions referring to how well did the instructor communicate the instructional materials and grading procedures?
