Reaching High-Levels of Student Engagement --> Implications for Instruction
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
I've learned that reaching high levels of student engagement requires lessons to be interactive, relevant, and student-centered. When students are actively involved, they're more motivated and retain information better. I plan to apply this by incorporating more group work, video lesson involvement, real-world connections, and opportunities for student choice in my instruction.
Having and in-class ticket and out of class ticket has helped students retain the information needed to move on in the course and even watching tutorial videos on programs we use in my CTE program as well
Video learning enhances engagement, improves retention, and provides flexible, visual, and interactive education, making complex concepts easier to understand and accessible anytime, anywhere.
Providing an opportunity for student agency is incredibly valuable for teachers and students alike.
Focus more on the process and not the outcome.
Allowing students to engage in open critique and analysis of another student's work, such as a video project, improves accountability and peer learning. When a students knows their work will be critiqued by their peers and openly discussed, it motivates them to produce higher-quality work. Additionally, students learn from each other’s strengths and areas for improvement. For instructors, facilitating these discussions requires setting clear norms, modeling constructive feedback, and creating a safe space where students feel comfortable sharing and receiving critiques.
Peer teaching is so effective in CTE training, especially when the instruction is project based.
Well I work with college sstudents so some of this does not apply. From this lesson I can take the concept of video taping the class during an assignment or shared learning moment. I would like to see how student engagement changes when they realize it is being filmed.
I think having students create their own videos is a great idea
Using a video is learning tool for students to grasp new material and to understand lesson quickly and easily. It makes learning more fun and enjoyable.
Videotaping encourages students to perform to the best of their ability because they are being observed virtually, taking into consideration that the video can be viewed several times so it encourages students to pursue perfection, and make sure that everthing is complete and all ends are tied up.
I have learned that video in the classroom has a place in helping students
I learned the immense benefits of building student agency for higher learning.
Agency & accountability are always good traits to bolster
for this section I learned removing the teacher from the dialogue helps provide greater authentic communication practice between students leading to the deep understanding and those neurons firing.
The idea of building student agency is so important. Focus on the process, not the outcome is a key takeaway I have from this lesson.
I definitely agree that opportunity to teach self efficacy is available in CTE programs.
Students need to take ownership in their learning. Some students are visual learners while others are hands on learners.
I have had students create infomercials before. This is a process with multiple checkpoints that allow for scaffolding.
