The classroom tends to focus on measurable learning objectives. However, soft skills are difficult to measure so often times not emphasized in the classroom.

Nine of the 10 are soft skills, including critical thinking, patience, communication, organization, creativity, leadership, teamwork, time management, and conflict resolution. One hard skill was mentioned: computer skills.

A good definition is as follows: Professionalism refers to the way you behave and represent yourself in your occupational setting.

I have learned that I possess many of the soft skills but I am still working on my organization and making sure I keep my responsibilities in order and prioritize.

I've learned that while academic knowledge is crucial, the holistic development of soft skills for our students, focusing on communication, teamwork, adaptability, and emotional intelligence, is equally vital. Soft skills prepare students not just for academic success but for life beyond the classroom in a post-secondary & professional sphere as well. Their ability to interact effectively, solve problems collaboratively, and adapt to change will determine their success in both college and beyond.

As an ELT teacher, I've learned the invaluable importance of soft skills in fostering an effective and engaging learning environment.

Here are some key soft skills I've developed and how I intend to apply them:

Empathy: Understanding my students' perspectives, emotions, and experiences allows me to create a more inclusive and supportive classroom.
Communication: It is crucial for building rapport with students and colleagues. I'll strive to improve my active listening skills, provide clear instructions, and encourage open dialogue in the classroom.
Patience: Teaching can be challenging, especially when students face difficulties. Patience is essential for creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere. I'll practice patience and provide timely and constructive feedback to help students overcome obstacles.
Adaptability: The classroom is a dynamic environment, and teachers must be able to adapt to changing circumstances. I'll continue to develop my adaptability by staying informed about new teaching methodologies and being open to trying different approaches.

Teachers require a diverse set of soft skills to effectively guide and inspire their students. Leadership is paramount, as educators must be able to direct classroom activities and influence students positively.

Communication skills are equally crucial, enabling teachers to convey complex ideas in an understandable manner.

Emotional intelligence is also essential, as it allows teachers to empathize with students and understand their needs.

Additionally, skills like patience, teamwork, and the ability to provide constructive feedback are vital for creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

As an educator, it's important to have soft skills such as patience, creativity and flexibility.
