Probing a question is a great tool to assess the student learning.
I find that I ask more probing questions to ensure students are understanding the topic at hand
Probing is helpful to assess the student's true understanding of the material and showing that they are not offering a rote, memorized response.
Probing is helpful to guide students to think and discuss topics. This promotes critical thinking and not just memorization.
Probing will help the student to think deeper into the subject or questions asked. Redirection needs conscious thought as not to necessarily shut down/embarrass the student, but get the student and the group to redirect either to the correct topic or answer using higher level questions and thinking
Probing is a questioning practice used by instructors to push students beyond providing very shallow answers. This practice encourages deeper thinking and understanding by asking follow-up questions. Instead of simple recall, probing questions require students to explain their reasoning, provide examples, and make connections between ideas. These methods help instructors identify misconceptions, promote critical thinking, and guide students toward a more thorough grasp of the subject matter.
