NO Promises

It's truly sad to see that some people would actually promise things like a great job or a great paying job to potential students to increase their enrollment. Unfortuantely not everyone has someone to help them.

Correct Compliance

It's easiest to stay w/in compliance than it is to try and "bend" the rules or customize the rules to fit your way of delivering a pitch.

Importance of Understanding Accreditation

A lot of students are misinformed when it comes to understanding the meaning of accreditation. To be accredited means basically two things: 1) The school or institution does what they say they do, and 2) The school or institution is recognized by the Department of Education and can offer Title IV, i.e. Financial Aid etc. Students assume it means that credits can transfer from one school to another, which is not necessarily the case. Transfer of credits is determined by the receiving institution. It is important that prospective students understand this difference and that admissions representatives present the proper information. Has anyone else encountered prospective students who have been misinformed regarding accreditation and what it means?

Personally Developed Leads/Referrals

What are some of the best ways to get personally developed leads or referrals without looking or sounding too "salesy?" This is something I feel I may struggle with as a new rep.

keep them coming . . .

excersing regularly is the best way to stay in shape. . . so it is with regulations and policies for our ever evolving industry. . . By doing these types of refresher certifications, we all become stronger.

The most easy error to make

Financial Aid? My, goodness... how innocently recruitment staff with good intensions find themselve triping over their own words about "how" they describe or answer prospective students questions about this crucial component of student enrollment. Knowledge is power.. and the more people understand about this topic the better, in my humble opinion; for it has been my experience that if you EDUCATE people, they will be able to speak more concise and accurately about a topic as opposed to using the "NON-EDUCATION" approach hoping if they don't know they won't say anything. ummm, if only that were true.

Renewal of Knowledge

As painful and time consuming these tutorials may be, it is critical that all institutional recruitment staff remain aware of the risks involved with discussing enrollment with prospective students. More importantly, being a Learning Facilitator that trains recruitment staff I appreciate these excercises so that I can help reinforce these concepts.

The tuition charge shall be for institutional purpoes only. Any additional fee for activities, books, equipment, and room and board shall not be included in the school's tuition charge. This was a real poser for me, while I was reading it I kept thinking all-inclusive tuiton over and over and over. Many schools advertise this. Is this not okay in Ohio?

accredited

I appreciate now know that we are accredited by the Ohio State Board and supposed to be. Because several students have applied and attended schools in which they visited and found they were not State Board schools.

print ads

I agree that print ads should not ever talk about salary ranges for angyone. what i've found is that students have been responding better when theyre told the truth about the fact that admissions cannot determne a future salary.

Advising

As Agents we must be aware of our roll. We are not typically the person who makes marketing for our institutions we follow the marketing. We are not typically the person who sets policy we follow policy. Our job is to inform perspective students of our schools, so that they can make an informed decision about their future.

Student Services

I believe that student services though it is an important part of the student experience, should not be over sold! As agents we must be careful not to over state the out comes of a students employment through our student services department.

Paper Work

One Thing I think about handling student files is that we should be very clear on how to handle sensitive student information, that's why we should understand how to file away information in the school and with state requirements.

Agents are not counselors

Our job as agents is to represent the admissions process, not to counsel students, we are to explain the admissions process in detail and answer any admissions qeustions

Lots of Information

Although training can be long and, at times, boring...it is important to stay mentally fresh in order to better retain the information. Since this is such a highly regulated industry, all of the training information is necessary to learn and understand in order to be good in Admissions. Why else is it important to pay attention to this information?

Knowing your programs

The more you know about your programs and student services the better you can inform your potiental students about their options. What are some good ways to let your students know about these options?

Marketing

It is important for an agent to know and understand the various ways a school advertises. What are some good ways to understand and know these various way?

Understanding The Standards

It is very important that you understand the standards set by your insitution. The standards set, no matter how high, will help you gain a better understanding of goals you can also set for yourself in helping someoone in serach of reachin their educational goals.

Advice

What is some advice anyone could give on helping the student fill out the admissions paperwork?
