CIE Website

I like the idea of having CIE website accessible and resourceful for my Admission Representatives. Reply

Continuing Education - Admissions

In my past career there has always been continuing education in order to maintain licensure. I for one think that this is an excellent idea due to the fact that we are dealing with other's lives and have the ability to make a very positive impact on their future! I look forward to hearing other's thoughts on this topic.

About My Institution

Our chair person for our individual programs of study are great to work with. If questions arise from students that I personally don't have answers to, they are always willing to assist. They truly go above and beyond to assist the admissions representatives. They are a wealth of knowledge about the program and always can provide key tidbits of information that can make the difference when talking to a potential student.

What is the best way to keep track of regulation updates?

Since regulations might change frequently, are there any web sites or suggested links that can help us keep up today with new admision regulations.

Orientation

This is very important to the student. It will give them an understanding of the institution. It gives the students a chance to learn who's who at the instituion and meet and greet with them as well. It also gives them a chance to look around the institution again and get familiar with the classrooms, the learning resource center and the bathrooms!

Understanding your institution

As an admission representative we need to have knowledge of all departments and what their main function is. This is beneficial to the potential student. We want to make sure that we are conveying the right information to the student.

Agent definition

The following rule clearly states that licensed agents cannot be referred to as counselors. Are there any rules (or should there be) that preclude full-time, on-campus admissions staff members from having the title Admissions Counselors? 6E-2.010 (13) All licensed agents representing an institution shall be called agent, admissions representative, sales representative, or field representative. The terms counselor or advisor, or modifications thereof, shall not be used by agents. Thanks!

Overbearing parent / friend accompanying prospective student

Have you ever encountered the loud, interrupting, asks all the questions type of person that comes in with the prospective student? My suggestion is to explain, in a professional manner of course, that you appreciate their concern, but would like the prospective student to ask questions as well as respond since they are going to become the student. Any other suggestions?

Source Coding Your Leads

I am curious how other institutions track whether your print and direct mail advertising as being effective. Do you always use a call to action on your pieces. Web tracking is so easy, that sometimes people over look how they generate leads from other avenues.

Financial Aid

How much can an Admission say about Financial aid?

Non-Workable Lead

A lead that has a wrong/non working phone number, address, email address...or if the person or persons inform you the person you are trying to contact does not live at or have that phone number is understood to be non-workable...but at what point do you determine a lead to be non-workable when the person states they are no longer interested....many admissions directors feel you file it for now and recall in a month or so....sometimes I call a person only to hear " I have told you many times, Im not interested" and yet we file to call again...I feel this makes the school look bad...what are the procedures for this at some of the other schools...I would really like to know the correct definition of a non-workable lead in this sense

Admission training

Is the Admission training to be taking only once or it is a continue education required?

Life-long Learning

This module discussed how some applicants will want course credit for life experiences. I have found this to be a complex issue. At some level, there is value for having experienced real-world experiences. However, as an educator I must know "how is this knowledge measured?" My school doesn't offer life long learning, primarily for this reason. I know some undergrad schools utilize CLEP, which seems like a good idea. However, it would be interesting to learn more about how other admissions reps deal with this issue.

Licensing Process

While I am completing this class from the perspective of an admissions representative, I had the fortunate opportunity to be a part of our college's licensing procedure. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to take the issues discussed in this module seriously, and CIE does review your system to assure all of the practices are in accordance with state law. A rogue or careless admissions rep could be jeopardizing the licensing (and subsequently the accreditation) of a school. If you see a team member cutting corners be sure to bring it to someone's attention. They could be causing serious problems for all stakeholders.

Agents & Admissions Reps

Hi Everyone, This is really a wonderful resource and I'm enjoying the course. One of the interesting things that jumped out at me was the delineation between agents and admissions representatives. As online programs continue to grow internationally, it will be interesting to see the role of international agents changes and the role they play in connecting colleges and students. For example, suppose a college wanted to use an agent in India: it appears that CIE would need to do a background check on that agent, and assure he/she is taking this training. Essentially, it doesn't matter if the agent is in India, or Miami. The same training applies to anyone who is representing your brand. This is fantastic, and reflects true leadership on the part of CIE. As someone with a marketing background, I know that branding success only occurs when the message being conveyed is consistent among stakeholders. This training assures this, which protects both the student and institution. Best of luck to everyone in the course, Matthew Kenney

Client Comfortability

In my experience making the client feel comfortable is paramount. If this is accomplished there is a much better chance of a enrollment.

Educational Programs

I have to say after reading this section it helped me a lot. I actually sat in on several classes at my institute and spoke to almost all the instructors. This was one of the best ways for me to learn about the programs at my school rather than reading the "Institutional Catalog". Did anyone eles experience this same learning experience?

Tuition Assistance

can we have one designated admissions officer handle tuition assitance???

Compliance

Compliance trainings are so essential, how often should reps be updated with trainings to make sure the information is current?

Career Service

Career Services offers such great assistance to our students! I love being on tour with my future students and getting to show off our Career Service center. Potential students are blown away with how much attention we give our students and grads and really help them not only while they are in school, but even after they have graduated.
