Exercising and Relaxation

I am a phchology/criminal justice major, i use exercise as a technique to relieve my stress from school. When I get to work, I am prepared to deal with the stress of my students and my job with open heart, mind and soul.

Me and Stress

I use to live with stress until I got sick for it. Now I have learned that nothing in this world is worth getting angry at or even upset for that matter. When something bothers me now I just tell people what it is. Let them handel the stress. Often my husband and supervisor will get angry at me because I'm not angry, but when I say things I say it with no emotions. That's because stress already had me down one time and I'm not going back

ORGANIZING SKILLS

Keeping yourself organized in your personal life will help you to be more organize as an instructor. Coming up with different ideas about testing will help you to save time on your classroom activities so you will have more time for lectures and activities.

personality of Instructor

Wow!! This course is insightful. The different style of instructors brings different values into their classroom. We should all strive to incorporate the qualities of a guiding instructor.

TIME RESERVED

Taking control of our time lets us enjoy time doing other things we will not have time for if we putting off for tomorrow what we are suppose to be doing today

Insructors that have (SMEs) and (IDEs)

Instructors that have the subject matter experts and instructional delivery experts are better instructors

Stress Related Impact to Work

At what point do you remove stressors to keep the workplace going?

Managing student behavior

Managing student behavior is challenging every semester. First, to set the boundries between instructor and student. What is appropriate professional behavior whether it be communicated verbally, nonverbally, or in written format. When the boundries and rules are set on day number one with specific consequences then managing behavior is a small event.

Instructor Anxiety

Reviewing notes mentally on the way to class or during travel time has been very helpful for me.

Cheating Students

Standing in the back of the classroom has help avoid cheating from students.

Challenging Students

Mutual respect is essential in working with students.

Engaging students

During the first week of classes, I try to have the students feel excited about the class and its content.

Adult learner

With the adult learner, I find it difficult to balance pushing too hard and not enough, I find it a challenge to motivate uninterested, especially the one who is smart enough to still do well with their grades.

Instructor Anxiety

I have made this mistake, not intentionally, but I have done it. My plate is full with creating new cirricullm, I have students having a hard time grasping the material, I have another instructor call out, and my anxiety shines on through. When this happen's, immediatly it shines through in my students. So it is SO important, we as instructor's, stay focused on what we are doing at that moment with the students and let nothing eles filter through. If we don't our students start carrying the same anxiety

Students with anger issue's

I have had a few students with anger issue's through out my years of being an instructor. I find if I take just a short amount of time to listen to the student, maybe speak on an understanding level, give a bit of ground advice, the anger usually subsides. It just takes a bit of dedication and listening and I find I can get a hold on almost any situation and turn it around in to a positive light.

Respect breads respect.

In order to gain respect, you must give respect. By showing my students respect, it become reciprocal. I will often tell my students that I respect how hard they are working in school and what a great example they are for their children and others in their lives

The Frustration of a cheating student

I really believe that a students cheat because of the lack of preparation. And I find is frustrating and so do the students who is working hard, they put in the effort to be prepared and they are taking their education seriously. Especially if the cheating student recieves a higher grade then the one who studied hard. It can cause a lot of hard feelings between students and each other but also students and instructor.

What I think about when encountering a challenging student

First is, we are a career oriented school, the students come from a wide range of background. I remind my self to that I need to be more patient, have a big heart and that I need to put more efforts and time in for them, otherwise, they are easy to get slipped off the track.

Most student learn by seeing and or by demonstration

Most student learn by seeing and or by demonstration, by show other students work helps the students understand that they can do it if they are having a hard time understanding

The Challenging Student

We all have had them.. The 1st and most important thing an instructor should not do, is give up on that student..The instructor needs to try to get to the bottom of the issue.. Generally if a student thinks that just one person cares, the issues that are so big, usually subside. 9 times out of 10, a challenging student needs just a little bit of positive attention and reenforcment, and they thrive from there on forward
