Motivators

I've found in a classroom situation, using both Inrinsic, and Extrinsic methods, works very well in the proper amount.

Security

After finishig this course I thought back to my classes. I think in my classes I am able to help my students with security by treating them more like co-workers, rather than I am the instructor and you are the student. I also like to have fun in class so it will make them alittle more relaxed and realize that the instructor is a human the same as they are. Once they feel alittle more relaxed they tend to open up more and work harder.

ED102

It's great when you teach a student on how to do something. Not just showing them how to do it, but to do it right and give them an extra pat on the back for a job well done. So far, all of my students really appriciate the word of encouragement.

ED102

Understanding the student. Some days students are on top of thier game in the lab, other days not so... As an Instructor, we are not just an Instructor, we are someone each student looks up to. They look up to us for not just school stuff, but stuff that also has to do with life. Lets all try our best to guide them in the right direction...

retention

i feel as an instructor ny teachiing should be clear and concise so i can motivate my students to strive more

Student Security

Allowing students to work in pairs has really helped the learning outcomes of my students. Some groups work better together than others but switching up the groups helps others to see how to work out problems. Having a schedule of the group rotation really helps and gets people excited to work with other indivuals.

Listening

It is very important to be a good listener and focus on the student while they are asking questions.

Experience!

I love the fact that lecture is stressing out experience as main focus of adult learning experience is a great foundation that let us adults move forward. What about the situation when experience is less relevant what do we do next?

Me as adult learner!

I am an adult learner myself. As an adult learner I definitely must see purpose as I feel my time is limited. This course for instance is a requirement for my employment and I have to do it. The question is " Would of you still done this course if there was no requirement" I know I would of but what about the rest of you?

Adult Learner!

Often times we tend to generalize the adult learner as person who comes with vast amount of experience. In my opinion we can not do that as learners are different and need an individual approach. When it comes to adult education nothing can be assumed.

Security

Students feeling secure in the classroom positively impacts their success in the classroom. A sense of security provides a comfortable environment for students to ask questions.

keeping students motivated

it is important to keep the students motivated throught the course by involving the students in activities that can creat long lasting experiences and at the same timethe message is learn

understanding students characteristics

by knowing your students background as an Instructor it gives you an idea how to teach and convey learning to your students.

retention

Sometimes a student chooses not be be retained since a course is not all they believed it would be. Especially the young

The overly motivated student!

Have you ever experienced the overly motivated student, or over-achiever? They want to be called on to answer every question. They want your full attention after class...while other students are waiting. They don't pick up on your clues that you have many students to help. They really could care less about rewards, because the only award which matters to them is dominating your full attention and time.

Students as customers

The students are our customers but not our only customers. Students, instructors, employers, ect..., all have an interest in the outcomes from the training.

Life Experiences and learning

As a Medical Assistant instructor I have to use real life stories to get the students interested. When I do, they open up about their healthcare experiences and it really makes the class more enjoyable!

Providing autonomy without compromising the lesson plan or objectives

The discussion on autonomy was helpful to me. I have been quite resistant to allowing students to detemine what may be done in class for fear that it would most likely compromise the day's lesson plan. I'm beginning to rethink my misgivings. I now realize that autonomy can strongly influence student motivation. The key is to figure out how to give up some control to the students without compromising the lesson plan. Students can be allowed to make certain decisions during daily activities that really have no negative effect on that day's lesson. For instance, I can give students the choice of making their brownies with or without nuts or let them decide in which order they can perform their assigned tasks. By giving students the freedom to make these small choices, it seems to please and motivate them.

Excitement

Can you ever be to enthusiatsic about what you are teaching?

Rapport

Can you become too friendly with a student while establishng a rapport that crosses over from student/teacher to student/friend?
