Blurred Lines??

Through some of my limited experince I have found that some older students tend to blurr the lines between the learnig styles. Is this found to be common our,is it only found in my field of instruction?

The !st Day

It is a fun day to meet the new students of the course I like to ask them questions to find out where they live and what are there plans for the future it is a calm and laid back time to adjust to a new course.Rich Molloy

Content to level of student's needs

I try to deliver content base on how well the students are comprehending the material.

It is always different

Each new start for is always interesting, nervous, can not wait to start. It always fun and challenging first day to establish a good first positive impression.

Meeting the class one day 1

it is vary important to meet and greet the students on the first day.make them feel welcome and introduce who you are and set the exceptations for the class.i give thema course cylibus in paper and go over the info oraly to explain and answere any questions.i also include the class room and lab rules and regulations.

When preparing lecture notes, which of these mathods do you find most effective?

Summary sheets, Note cards, Tranceparies or power point, lecture in 10-15 minute blocks, and how do you decide how much time to budget for questions? Since each class I have is different from the next depending on student knowledge?

attention span

the short attention span of adults makes keeping a schedule for a class difficult. Are there any tips for keeping the lesson long enough for finishing the lecture without stopping every 12 minutes...

testing and retention of information

I feel that testing the level of retention is not the only purpose of the test in it self but the reinforcement of the information as well. it should be used as a way of a final review for students. as they build upon their information bank but some students may exibit overload when it comes to testing the fear of not being prepared by the information given creates anxiety for some. the methode of testing may also reflect the students inability to corilate the information because of this.

keeping student awake and interested

you should use all of the suggestions covered in the material we just covered. which of the methods you use will depend on a lot of different conditions. a few these would be : the weather, class size, subject, expierence of students in subject being covered, ect.

Taking class from another instructor.

I am taking a class over from another instructor. Does anyone have any sugestions?

student does not want to learn

How do you get a student to learn that don't want to?

wher have they been

I always start with where have the students come from. which classes have they taken so for and how was that experience. Then I tell them what we will be covering in our class.

grading

We return the test back to the students right after they take it to go over the scores and the questions. Is this a good practice or should it be done on a individule basis.

Questions on tests

I am always having students wanting to argue about the content of the question on a quiz.of course its always a question the missed . What is a proper way to address them when they feel the have been tricked .or feel more than one awnser is correct Dan Butler

tests

We use alot of pre-made tests. They work well because alot of other instructors teach the same courses so using those tests kind of keep them on track to make sure that every class that comes through that course has the same information and are assessed on the same level as their predicessors

Planning

Preparation of a class to me is the key for overall success towards students reaching the desired goal of learning and hopefully retaining course content.

questioning

I have found that when a student is to ask me a question I also seem to gain some knowledge from the question. Being challenged by a question, tells me how motivated that student is about learning the process for the skill of their future.

meeting new students frist time

Our student are from many different states so I ask them "where are you from?". I have been to many states. If I have been to their area of the USA we talk for a few seconds about that. this helps break the ice on the first day.

Questions

When asking questions to students, you must keep in mind that thier though process only stays within thier instrest. Questions must be made instrusting to them.
