classroom

I believe that technology may be a barrier in this concept of learning. We would have to make sure that all instructors are knowledgeable and up to date on technology advances before startig this process.

Issues and Barriers

While I have been instructing now for 11 years i do think that some of my seasoned peers may not like a change like this. If it were introduced to new instructors, it would be great.

flipped

I think I would enjoy doing a flipped classroom enviornment. Alot of my students have trouble completing their assignments because maybe they dont understand the material and need immediate feedback.

Developing as an instructor

I like to get feedback from students. I periodically ask them during the course if there are areas they feel needs improvement in order to help them learn. I know that they take an end of the course evaluation, but many times they breeze through this because they are finished with the course and want to move on to the next. Also, asking them during the course helps me to be able to make changes immediately to help them learn the content and be successful.

Questions

The information shared in this section was very useful. For example, when the instructor does not know the answer to a question from the student, simple state, I don't know; however, we will find the answer together.

Flipping the classroom

This is good for older instructors who are shy about using technology in their class

flipped classroom

Better learning environment for the student

How should we deal with the adjustment of a flipped classroom?

In this topic of study it discusses how students, teachers, and even parents may have a hard time adjusting to the flipped class room. what would be some suggestions to overcome this and make for better adjustments?

class objectives

I have found that a clear and easy to understand listing of class objectives, and a short lecture going over the advantages of it helps the students to focus on the lessons.

Different Types of Tests

I like to mix up the types of tests I give. It seems to benefit most students to really work with their strengths and weaknesses. However, we are able to work on those weaknesses and turn them into strengths and they seem to do much better on the next test.

Passion For the Lives and Futures of Every Student I Meet!

I have been teaching online and onsite for a little more than a year. What I find not only interesting but impossible to avoid is the sincerity I bring to every student in my classes. For me, it does not matter how objective and professional I try to be, my passion for every student is something I cannot avoid. I understand this is a positive and most if not all instructors try to bring this emotion to the classroom. However, is this really true? For me, my humbled life growing up, sharing house parenting duties while an undergraduate with my late wife hoping to save troubled youth before it is too late and the difficult but rewarding experience of raising two sons on my own these last twelve years play a significant role in how I deal with my students. I know I am this way because from the moment I speak to students in front of others and individually, I feel this automatic and emotional connection. I want the student to succeed and I want to help them become better people regardless of what skills they bring to my communication courses and no matter what my course outcomes are. This can be troubling to me only because I wonder "is this the way it is supposed to be?" Am I supposed to feel this way all of the time or am I being too emotional? This is the question I pose to you. As instructors in an industry where many outsiders feel is a "thankless" profession is it enough to give your time, intelligence, education and in this case, your passion for each student to not only succeed in life but to be happy as well?" Am I being naive by feeling this way? If you do not feel this way, is this the norm and should we as instructors avoid taking our teaching to this level for all of our students? Is this realistic?

meeting and relating

when meeting new students its great to expand on why they are here. expand on what there goals are and the possibilities and opportunities

reflection

I've found reflecting on my past learning experiences has helped greatly on finding different techniques to deliver lessons

Effective learning

Showing students how you preform a task will give them a way to understand the material at hand.CWM

Meeting my students

Always make sure you greet all new students with a hand shake. Always try to get to know one thing about them before I get to the next student.CWM

Syllabus

Reading the syllabus for me is a great way to make sure I cover all the material.CWM

Instructional style

I have found that my trade experience has been key to getting information to my students. Students like hearing what it is like in the field and why they need to understand the material.CWM

Why class objectives are important

Class room objective are very important. They help the instructor and student. They help the instructor stay organize and let the student know what is being taught in their class.

Test

A test validity is determined by how well it samples the range of knowledge, skells, and abilities students were supposed to acqaire in the period covered by the exam.

Switching Groups

I prefer to switch groups every week. So they can work with different types of personalities. They will have an idea of diversity in the field.
