Ask a question from your peers to help you in your professional work. Seek different points of view on a topic that interests you. Start a thought-provoking conversation about a hot, current topic. Encourage your peers to join you in the discussion, and feel free to facilitate the discussion. As a community of educators, all members of the Career Ed Lounge are empowered to act as a discussion facilitator to help us all learn from each other.

Learning assessments

This is a great tool that I will use in my introductory lectures.

Forming appropriate questions

Sometimes forming an appropriate question for the discussion can be difficult.

Learning Styles

Many of my students are visual learners.

Questioning

I have found that it is important to ask many questions throughout class to ensure the students are understanding the topic and for class participation. Some students have extreme amonts of knowledge that they have gained or have and may not share unless questioned.

Learning Styles

I am now starting to learn the importance of gathering the students learning styles throughout each class in order to implement the correct variety of learning experiences.

Forming questions

I am convinced about the importance in asking good questions. But my problem is this: I can't think of any good impromptu questions to ask (when I have time to create questions, that's different). So my questions are two-fold: 1. How can I grow in being able to ask better impromptu questions? 2. What has been the best method in creating questions? How do you come up with a "good" question?

Learning Disabilities

Matching up the gifts of one student to the weaknesses of another complements both the one with the disability and those with weaknesses

Students with Challenges

I have found pairing up those who excel with those who are struggling has given a better boost to class unity and morale

Organizing Groups

I have found being diverse with age, ethnicity, and educational level produces a much greater outcome

Eye contact with students

Making eye contact keeps the students more aware of the instructor and where they are. It makes them more attentive

Organized

Students need to see an instructor that is prepared for class every time

First Meeting

Students need to know you mean business

Books

Not being updated and test banks, do you have issues with poor edited materials?

Classroom Management

How to cope challenges with unmotivated students.

trial and error

How can this be done in a lecture setting?

motivating students

How do you motivate students who are only interested in taking up space and wasting the instructor's time?

professional development

Is this a proven forum for professional development?

teaching styles

Shouldn't the student adjust to your style?

syllibus development

Should all faculty be involved in their development or just home office?

learning styles

Wow. this was a great one. Most teachers teach the way they learn. This does not always work out so good, because some students get left behind. Learning to teach to all four styles listed helped me focus on how to better convey the information.
