difference

i agree w/different styles of learning

Plan B

be ready to change your day

powerpoints

If you put to much into the power point the students will read the power point not listen to lecture

the time crunching instructor

Students appreaciate when the instructor is on time

Instructional Delivery Methods

Whatever method we use it should be indesive to the student learning not overpowering to the student.

Soft Skills

Very important that students know what is expected when pursuing employment.

Adapt to Change

Instructors should embrace change to become more effective in the classroom.

Textbook PPT

A problem I have run into is the powerpoint prestentations provided by the students text book tend to be boring and include unnecessary information. I try to edit them and take out excess information, but have found this to be time consuming and labor intensive.

Personality of the Instructor

I liked the way you broke down the types of personality of instructors. I could see where I "fit" into several types and where I could improve or work on strengtening areas where I needed it. Thanks, Dale

Preparing yourself for the classroom

It helps you to be ready for the students&put the students in the learnig mode.

Keeping Students In Class

Retension is a big issue how do you keep students from going over their hours and dropping classes I seem to try to make the class interesting and encourage the students but no matter what I do some students just drop?

Helping Students When They Are Discouraged

I have some students that get bogged down by their 6th or 7th mod and just say it is taking too long too complete the program what are some ways I can encouage them to keep going even through the rough patches

Student Evaluation

It is important to evaluate each students progress regulary to make sure they are grasping the information. If not, it is important to work with these students to help them to succeed.

Back Up Plan

When you find that a particular teaching method is not keeping the attention of your students, it is important to have a back-up lesson in place to grab their attention.

Use a Variety of Teaching Methods

How a student learns can very from student to student. Using a variety of teaching methods and presentation techniques will help to reach the whole audience.

Organization in the Classroom

Planning and organizing your day will keep the students motivated in class. It helps to keep a productive flow so that the students do not loose attention.

Make up work policy

As a new instructor, Make up work has been a difficult policy to enforce. Meaning, there are so many different excuses and circumstances that occur. I have found myself in the beginning not enforcing the policy as stated in the syllabus was a problem for me because it was much more work for me to sort out the "make up" assignments and other assignments. Eventually, after 2 terms of teaching I found myself "laying down the law" and did not accept make up work unless it came with a doctor note of some sort. This was something I learned through experience.

overwhelming the students

When the students gets overwhelmed, I noticed its usually because there is too much material that is presented to them. Such as, reading assigned for homework, reports due the next day, and research that needs to be done for the class. When the students are overwhelmed they tend to give up quickly and lose interest. Setting small goals for them allows them to have a sense of accomplishment and they are more motivated.

aha moment

Its rewarding as an instructor to witness a student have an "aha" moment. Training the students and providing instructions on how to use their new skill effectively is a responsiblity of an instructor. Watching them learn and understanding the content makes my job fulfilling

guest speakers

I found that using guest speakers are very motivating to the students. The students become inspired and it gives them a boost to do better in class. I have always gotten positive response and feedback from both students and guest speaker. I recommend to all instructors to bring in a guest speaker in the middle of the term to recapture and peak their interest again.
