This was a GOOD TRAINING

Director Involvement is Key!

I know that when I am able to be more present in the classroom that the rapport I build with the students and instructors grows tremendously, thus making everything else work smoothly!

Action Plan

I intend to share the information on MANAGEMENT STYLES with my Academic Director so we can review the information with our Professors during our next faculty meeting. The goal is to help them to evaluate their classroom managment styles and become more of "Guiding"instead of Controlling.

Get a grip!

Classroom management is the key to a long and fruitful student instructor relationship. They need someone they can relate to as well as respect!

What I've Learned

The training for a first year teacher was truly insightful. I have learned have to impactful to those around me. Every student deserves a chance to be successful whether they are in trade school or a four year university.

Wisdom

Making class fun and exciting often helps with retention and team building exercises

An instructor's best resource

I have the best group of co-workers.  These fellow instructors work together, we help each other and learn from each other.  They are the best resource!  I have also discovered through the years, that I think I have come across every possible classroom scenario, and I still run across new situations every term.  I learn a lot from my students!

Culinary world

I really enjoyed taking this coarse, I enjoyed refreshing my mind with some of the already practices I use is a classroom setting. Thank you for making the coarse so interesting.

Excellent information

One of the things I can use right away was learned near the end of the course.

Not being uneasy about doing the right thing poorly and recognizing that this is part of the learning process and that it is the only way to get to the final block (doing the right thing well) is helpful.  Knowing that I am not alone in this worry is also helpful.  I will be more confident about having to do the right thing poorly when this comes up in the future and not be so worried about it.  This is something that… >>>

Learning from mistakes

I think being a new instructor I overwhelmed myself with too many what if's, like "what if my students don't take me seriously," "What if I make a fool out of myself," as well as others. After going through this course I was able to relax and have some time to reflect on my purpose and goals are. So for me it is going to be about taking some time to decompress and reflect, as well as to not be afraid to ask questions or for help.

Re-evaluating

This course helped me to re-evaluate certain things that I've been doing and also giving me new insights.

Stress & time management

I found this course educational and relevant to my workplace. My plan is to organize my files by scanning/uploading my course material and handouts to an electronic filing. This in turn should slim my hardcopy files and make locating materials much easier, in turn saving me time.

Proscrastination

I am the biggest proscrastinator i know. The only thing that gets me going is the last minute. I will utilize my time better by prioritizing.

Stress

Stressful situations can lead us to conflict amongst each other, we are challenged everyday, it's important to find an outlet to decompress.

Class management

As any professor can testify, there are many types of students in the classroom. Each student comes with strengths and challenges. The angry student is the most challenging for me. I sometimes forget that it is more important to gain respect than to be liked. We all like the encouraging comments from our students. The student who, after the second day of class says that you are not qualified to teach the course makes one re-examine what was said and done that may have jeapordized the respect.

There is much to be learned about the verbal and non-verbal communication… >>>

Readiness

I learned the importance of over preparing.

Students names

I learned the value of knowing all my students names and how that will promote an environment hwere the students feel they are respected.

Stressors from within the faculity

Instructors who roam the hallways and glad hand with everyone are a constant source of stress.

Active Listening

Importance of active listening. Engaging quite students in small group projects to see if they understands the content.

Self evaluation

This course has been very beneficial to me as an instructor.  I spent most of the time during the course reflecting and evaluating my non-verbal communication behaviors.  I will definitely be making some changes immediately.
