Index cards can be useful ?!

Index cards can be useful ?!

Yes, I use index cards in a class or two to help me with attendance and accomplishments. My EET250 Computer Organization I inseat class uses index cards. Each student writes their name on the top line, followed by the ten dates of the class on each line. Each day, I hand out the cards at the start of each class. When the first hour is up, I take attedance based on the cards that have not been handed out yet. I can mark "A" or "L" on the cards for "absent" or "late".  They… >>>

Our Syllabus and our grading: how they fit together

Our Syllabus and our grading: how they fit together

The adult learner in a career college course is concerned with (1) obtaining the knowledge and skills to succeed in the career of their choice and (2) receiving clear, attainable guidelines in the form of grades in the course.

Therefore, I always study the official syllabus of the course to determine how grades are assessed (most ECPI syllabi have specific categories, such as 30% for tests, 20% for discussion boards, etc. )

Then I assess each gradable item in the learning shell (web site, such as LMS/Moodle) and determine which ones… >>>

stress

Stress as we alll know can be very unhealthy. Learning different ways to deal with stress is a benefit ,when one method may not work you can try another.

Always have creative activites

Make sure the activites are fun for you as well and not just the students. Be engaged in the activites you provide for your students. Also get involved as well if possible.

Instructional Theories

For the experienced instructor this is a realistic and informative learning tool.

Diverse population and adult learning

This course iterates that many people have been out of school for a length of time and that instructors need to be aware of that. It also provided valuable ideas of how to deal with various situations as well as teaching how to be aware of areas that may be troublesome for instructors. Great course!

Great Course

This course helped by mentioning several important components of classroom management and areas that all instructors need to concentrate on. It provides real examples of things that we need to consider when dealing with a very diverse population of students.

Course relevance

Great Insight

this was a very well thought out course. Subjects were to the point.

Great Course

Learning is student centered, by repetition, conveyed using variable grammar and vocabulary, and incorporating students' interests; hopefully resulting in a comfortable learning environment limiting disciplinary issues.  I won't forget my non-verbal cues and communication.

Stress

This online course brought many techniques to me on stress factors and how to deal wit, reduce or eliminate them. Some can be restuctured to be lass stressful.

Classroom management

Classroom management is a unique and demanding puzzle that combines both pragmatics and research theory. The challenge for any classroom teacher is to develop a practical, realistic classroom management plan that functionally serves to structure the learning environment for students’ day to day lives—a plan that also foresees and manages the numerous minute tasks that need to be addressed every day. However, a classroom management plan that is not grounded in clear theoretical principles of how students learn may be whimsical, or built haphazardly on trial and error approaches. My plan is to provide immediately practical tips and resources for… >>>

Application

I have recently transitioned from the classroom and clinical setting to simulation. So application is a bit different. I believe I can still apply some of the recommendations such as informing students of the outline for the day and expectations while in simulation. I will also provide a posterboard with the concepts we will be covering that they have learned that term as a guidelline

Motivating Students

I believe the best course of action going forward for me as an instsructor is to movtive my students with my real world experencies by giving them examples that they an use and relates to the course content..

Learn something new every day!
