Workload Management Strategies for Teaching Online --> WLMS to Develop the Learning Environment

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

In this module I learned to ensure my shedule allows for students to review course in or by week 1. It is also important to set clear objectives and goals for students to better understand what they will be expected to learn.

Hello, in this section regarding WLMS, I was introduced to Chickering and Gamson's Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education. It was encouraging to see that many of these strategies we already use align with these principles. Knowing that this research supports some of our practices strengthens our approach to teaching and learning.

Create a schedule and suggest the students review the entire course during week 1 and create a schedule for the term

Understanding University support resources is key to student and faculty success

Couldn't agree more teachers and learners need to be organized from the beginning of the class.

I learned that it is important to manage time and align goals to the principles of project management

I learned about the "three lists of three" method, which sounds like an interesting way to manage time. I am looking forward to discussing this strategy with my students.

I learned that the students should look forward to learning

I learned that it is important ask what supports are available to be able to understand how to help manage your time.  Often we think about strategies but maybe there are supports already available to assist.

Hello!

Establishing time management skills helps to develop the Expectations, activity, cooperation, interaction, diversity, and responsibility in the online teaching environment.

Effective time management and organization are crucial skills for both personal and professional success.

I like the idea of creating an FATQ section for a course. Many students have technology issues within their course and it would be efficient to have a guide for troubleshooting or a list of people to contact for certain issues.

To always keep in mind the structure, process, and delivery.

Being organized and finishing things in a timely matter are crucial to classroom management. Understanding that you have to track your priorities to manage time effieciently.

I like the suggestions about the 3 lists of 3 and feel that it can be helpful not just for the instructor of a course but for the students as well, especially when feeling overwhelmed. Finding a way to organize emails into courses is good too but I am not sure how to do that unless the students are instructed to use the course number as the subject line?

These organizational skills are critically important to the efficacy of the class and its success.

Organization is the key to successful online teaching.  Forwarding that knowledge to our students is just as important for them to succeed.

I learned how important it is to look at teaching an online course as project management. It was a refreshing perspective, and I realized I was more on track than I thought. I have already began to  developed a system to grade and support students while managing my time well.

Being organized with goals/objectives will help online classes be more engaging and measurable.
