The most important thing learned in this module was the very last sentence I read. Model what your students should be learning. Providing real-world examples is a great way to keep them engaged so they are able to understand the problem and analyze the solution.
Creating opportunities for discussion needs to go beyond the traditional discussion board uses where a student posts once and responds to 2 peers. I find students view this as irritating busy work and rarely make it meaningful. Discussion should contribute something back to the student they may not have learned in any other way during the class
I like the idea of doing more presentations to get students comfortable speaking to others. Communication is such an important skill in esthetics and teaching the skill right from the start will help to boost confidence as they begin their journeys.
I loved learning about modeling confidence during my own presentations and how that will impact my students. I would like to incorporate student presentations more often so they can be confident in the material they are learning, while also working on improving the skills needed to be a successful esthetician.
Be a role model for the students
A thoughtful preparation before presentation is key for an effective and successful presentation.
I plan to use the IDEAL method to help students
It is important for the Instructor to model class presentations and make eye contact with the students during lectures or demonstrations.
It is the instructor's job to model what they would like to see in return from there students.
Comment on Mark Johnson's post: Hello Mark, I agree. Students are watching our mannerism; therefore, you need to make sure you are always professional. Be consistent, this will allow your students to respect your conduct. And address them respectfully, even if they have a difficult day and they are disrespectful to you. You must show self-control. This is how students grow.
Being what you desire the students to become by creating habits and actions within the classroom
You must model what you wish your students to learn.
You must model what you want your students to produce
demonstrating lifelong learning skills are critical for working in the trade field
I've learned that adding short videos makes your theory a bit more interesting and more engaging.
i plan personally to implement the IDEAL problem solving in my own journey to help students with theirs.
I learned about the importance of modeling what you want students to learn. kb
I found the emphasis on discussion skills particularly interesting. However, I find it challenging to create online activities that encourage students to engage in constructive and deep discussions.
Technical skills are required to be successful, but to be truly successful, one must also practice critical thinking skills and be able to understand not only what they are doing, but why they are doing it.
