That there is a huge difference between interaction and intelligent interaction

I have learned a lot. The original distance education started in 1978 with correspondent shorthand course by mail (fascinating) and there has to be a structure for easy navigation for students to be successful.

It is important to know where the information is and how to search within to find the needed information.

User friendly with organization and visual interests

In my culinary classroom, Structural Integrity means keeping everything organized so students can easily find recipes, videos, and assignments. With Navigational Simplicity, I ensure the course platform is intuitive so students don’t waste time figuring out how to access materials. I focus on Active Learner-Centered Learning by offering hands-on activities like recipe creation and group discussions, letting students take charge of their own learning and dive deeper into what excites them.

I have learned in this module that in order to have a successful online experience there has to be a number of components involved. Navigational simplicity is a huge one for non traditional learners, being able to easily move through the course without confusion is a plus. Also active learner centered learning is another one because not all students learn the same. Having the interactive content helps all learners meet learning objectives.

As the popularity of online courses becomes the way of the future, one should look at the success of the first forms of distance learning by looking at the strategies that took place in the 18th century with mail-in correspondence letters.

Learning has evolved in so many ways, even in my lifetime. The way that our content is prepared and delivered will have a lasting impact on the way it is retained. Staying simple yet relevant will help a students overall experience.

use interaction with instructors and student

online courses are very helpful for the people who can work and do online courses at the same time

Courses need to have content build on itself, and to be engaging to the learner. There needs to be space for interaction with other students as well as instructors.

I started taking correspondence courses in the 1970s and loved the freedom to learn at my own pace. My graduate programs were online as well and I learned the key characteristics of online programs that help make students successful. Successful online courses for adults are engaging, flexible, and goal-oriented. They provide clear objectives, interactive content, and practical applications.  The courses need to have a user-friendly design and ensure accessibility and relevance for adult learners.

Interaction in online learning helps student develop a meaningful educational experience.  When opportunities are established for students to work collaboratively, the result is better learning outcomes.

This module presented the four main quality characteristics of an online course:

  1. Structural Integrity
  2. Navigational Simplicity
  3. Active Learner Centered
  4. Intellectual Interaction

These are the building blocks for a strong course design.

The approach to combine organization and small portions of content followed by a check alignes perfectly with the profile of current students their need for constant stimuli and their short attention span.

Quality online courses are characterized by:

  1. Structural Integrity
  2. Navigational Simplicity
  3. Active Learner-Centered Learning
  4. Intellectual Interaction

Absent any of these components, the online course may confuse learners, cause frustration and may not maximize their ability to retain the information presented.

Quality online courses need to be easily navigable and organized.

"Engaging learners in multi-sensory experiences focuses their attention, stimulates memory encoding, and increases retention levels as evidenced by a higher recall of key concepts." This helps learners to remain engaged in the subject, as well as remember what they are learning about.

Student-to-student interaction and student-to-instructor interaction are key elements of successful online courses.
