Learning Preferences of Generational Students | Origin: ED135

I have learned the value of how the younger generations learn. While I expect a majority of the students to be from younger generations I will incorporate the use of techniques from my generation and the next and not just the current generation. 

It is very important to understand the learning preferences of each generation . 

Gen Z tends to avoid memorization, often relying on Google or AI instead. While using technology as a tool—much like a spell checker—can be helpful, it raises the question of whether they truly understand the material. For example, is it still necessary for students to memorize long and complex formulas.

It is important for instructors to understand the generational learning preferences because that way it can speed up getting the students involved and interested in the topic of class. 

Gen Z is not into memorization...just look it up on Google or use AI. It's good to use technology, since like a spell checker, it is a tool, but do they really know the material? For instance, do they really need to memorize the trigonometric identities anymore?

I think it's good to take a step back and recognize that there's reasons and goals for how people learn. We also need to remember that there's socio-economic and regional differences for preferences and learning goals.

Once you develop a connection to the student,  within the relationship with the student you will grow to customize how you engage with that student and their learning preference.  We all learn differently and this module just confimrs that knowledge, However introducing new learning concepts to a student, may help them grow in a different direction in the their on-hands and learning techniques moving forward in their life and careers.

I would tailor my courses to accommodate generational differences. There's always that first day of class where 99% of students show up. I would look for age differences and talk to the individual students from a different generation. That would help me get a feel of what generation they're from.

Instructors need to adapt to learners and that includes characteristics of learning that can be generalized to generational cohorts.

This course was a good reminder that every generation has a learning style that they adapt to the best, as instructors we must keep an open mind and have diversity teaching methods to be able to target any generation in our classroom.

In my setting, a prison school, I think it would be difficult to cater to each generation. I think I could look for those outliers in my classes and at least be aware of the differences.

I learned that each generation has its own learning preferences.

Each generation has different learning styles.

Technology plays a major role in education and implementing it in the classroom to engage all learners is beneficial to the newer generations.

I learned a lot of useful information about each generation's learning preference.

Students have preferences for how they receive new information. The more knowledge you have of what these are, the better you will be able to plan your instructional delivery.

A fun fact I learned was that Gen Z has been subject to technology from even before they were born

I think using multiple techniques and strategies is a definite must! This is great information
