Instructional Delivery Assessment:

This module has a myriad of concepts such as Creating Lesson Plans, addressing the Three ways of learning according to Harvard Business Publishing, and the explanation of Why are some instructors very good at lecturing (amongst a multitude of other ideas)?

Creating Lesson Plans of great detail permits me to be prepared for the lecture with flexibility. Mainly as the module expresses it aids in remaining focused. The students are greeted by name as they login to our virtual classroom. My practice is to color coordinate my lesson plans in a chart formatted template. Usually, there are bullet lists of objectives. I designate a specific list of time for questions. Thereafter, I ask students to email me if they are still confused or schedule to meet me one-on-one for time management of the classroom. Once the Announcements Objectives, and Question & Answer segment has concluded I share the outline on the screen to provide an overview of our schedule. Then, we digress with an icebreaker or two.

I concur mini lectures are the best approach in order to keep student's attention. Recently, I began to divide my lecture into two lectures to have enough time for engaging discussions and videos when applicable. Some students are visual learners while others are auditory. Students are always given the opportunity to share their screen for clarity as some students are tactile learners.

It was intriguing to be enlightened by a lecturer of Harvard Business Publishing who provided three main styles of learning:

1. Students that absorb the content.

2. Students that make assumptions. The role of the instructor is to create a safe place for the students to push their assumptions

    to launch a discussion.

3. Self-Motivation (students learn something about him/herself).

The instructor that pushes students to self-reflect and welcome their ideas to the lecture is considered a good lecturer like a chameleon adapting to various styles to accommodate all learners.

Variety in delivery helps meet all different styles of learning

From this module, I have learned the importance of thoroughly preparing for each lecture and ensuring that I incorporate variety to keep the students actively and meaningfully engaged.

Teaching styles are different and we have to learn to utilize different methods of organizing and presenting class content. We also should select appropriate content delivery options. Once we recognize categories of learning styles. We can then Identify different lecture formats and select lecture format appropriate for class being taught.
Doing so involve us to plan ways to use demonstrations to deliver content.

The importance of recognizing people are individuals and need to learn in different formats. These learning styles need to vary throughout your course.

Varying the teaching style, adult attention span of 15-18 minutes, we remember about 25% of what we hear and retain about 40% of what we read were all helpful tips.

keeping lectures s15 or less  with different approaches for all

When planing, consider different learning style.

This gave me a better idea of how to break up a lecture especially when the attention span is only 18 minutes.

The best way of teaching is by making the course and interactive course in which the students work together and I get to work with them as well.

practice demonstrations before class

It is important for all instructors to use several different learning styles when creating a class.

Varying my teaching styles to reach many students at their level. Practice my demonstrations beforehand.

I will definitely do demonstrations beforehand so I am sure of what I am doing to teach the class. I love PowerPoints and how they are good resource for teaching. I would also vary my teaching style to reach as many students as possible.

Using different styles of teaching based on audience.  Breaking demonstrations up into smaller segments.

A varied teaching style keeps students engaged and dedicated to the learning process. Everyone learns differently, and you must try to reach as many students as possible.

Using a variety of lecture methods will keep the students engaged and alert to the rooms discussions and will hopefully create more engagement between students and instructors, along with getting to apply what's been discussed in lab in the shop right away to create a positive "I've learnt something today attitude and student is excited to apply the new knowledge. that creates a positive reinforcement of the days lesson plan.

Determine the lesson content, goal(s).

Provide a rationale (why do they need to learn this, objectives, delivery methods, materials and aids.

The lesson plan are guiding principles - not strict blueprints.

Preparation must allow for flexible delivery.

Ad-hoc adaptations will add an element of artistry to any lesson plan and delivery

Develop flexible teaching strategy – one size does not fit all in terms of each student especially adult students who have become used to being a certain way.

Vary your delivery to address as many learning styles as possible.

Lecture format flexibility and variety to keep students focused and break up the monotony.

Be aware of the various learning styles and incorporate them into your course.  This method will provide the greatest amount of students the opportunity to learn the material being taught.

Learning to pace one's self is important in the delivery of your lesson plan. I would like to focus on that aspect to make sure I don't run over or under the class time. I plan to allow enough "breathing room" in the lesson for students to ask questions prior to moving forward. By doing this I will have a way to double check that the students are understanding the lesson without leaving anyone behind.
