It’s important to show excitement for the field you are teaching with success stories and anecdotes to get students to be enthusiastic about learning.
Coming to class prepared with a variety of materials to ensure the success of each student.
The idea that disorganization by a teacher communicates disinterest is spot on. I remember a college professor who always seem to be flying by the seat of his pants- making stuff up as he went. It was very frustrating since the topic he taught was exactly why I was there and was related to my "major." I felt the college was almost using "bait and switch"- attracting students like me to this this specific program but putting their resources elsewhere.
Showing up on time and prepared with all materials and equipment is vital because it shows the students that you're engaged in their education and can motivate them to do better.
Always be over prepared as a new instructor.
Guest speakers are an effective way to bring about real-world experience and application to the classroom setting.
Being prepared will help you be successful in the classroom overall. Working with coworkers, observing behaviors, think outside of the box (field trip, guest speakers) show students how important the subject matter is. Show the importance in the real world.
Organization and learning your students can result in teaching and learning empowerment as well as enjoyment.
I really liked the idea of different colored handouts. Also reflecting on how I can make the students comfortable.
Known the subject being teach, will give an idea how the class will respond, if its boring the attention will go away, but if making interesting , allowing the students to participate, they will be focus and busy.
Be prepared and and ready for class by having materials ready.
It's always helpful to be reminded that the goal is (student) learning, not teaching!
It is important to be organized and ready for each class. This is a way to teach students professionalism.
In the classroom, it is important to come in prepared. If you come in a mess with papers flying, you distract your students and delay learning start times. Come in early, and prepared.
Large group field trips may be impractical and difficult. Perhaps an assignment to study, interview or tour a facility would help students build networks, and become familiar with the local industry. This could even be a step in the interview process.
Having guest speakers, taking field trips, and keeping your classroom organized keeps the students engaged.
I have learned that being prepared and coming to class can really impact students. I also learned how to overcome my natural shyness at first. I also learned that it is important to be engaged with the learners and take some self reflection when teaching.
I realized my focus has been more on the instruction of the subject matter than it has on being the "leader" of the class.
I'd like to look further into going on field trips or bringing in speakers to help give our students a well rounded approach.
Organization is probably the most important aspect. Having a plan before class begins is of the utmost importance.
