This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Assessment Strategies for CTE Educators --> Good Assessments

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

Creating good assessments should be challenging, remove barriers, reflect learning and speak to all types of students.

Barriers have to be identified and removed for students to succeed to their fullest potential, barriers will cause students to disengage, fail to meet lesson goals, or fail the course

ongoing formative assessments identify these barriers, which allows the path to be cleared for students

Only relying on a summitive assessment, students can fail to meet goals as formative is more of checks and balances, where are you, how long did it take, where are you going, how much time do you have to get there, are there "options" to advance at a increased rate without missing something. What needs or can change to improve the path.  all of these questions and answers are in formative assessments

Authentic tasks and assessments that truly reflect learning and growth need to include aspects such as mirroring real-world tasks and scenarios that are related to their future careers.

Good assessments are challenging, are without barriers, and encourage all types of learners to show what they've learned through multiple ways such as verbally, in writing, acting out, etc.

Original thinkers.  What a great thought. I liked the video of the man who spoke of teaching original thinkers.
