ChatGPT and Its Educational Uses --> Impact on Teaching

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

I intend to make use of LLMs to streamline my process—with careful discernment. Having accessible information will be helpful in personalizing my support, but I will not take information at face value.

Avoid including personal information in prompts. AI might use this data in output, risking privacy breaches. Always review output for sensitive data.

I am very surprised at the recommendation to use ChatGPT in the classroom! I see many of the benefits, such as the tutoring, or the assistance with lesson planning, but I plan to use plagiarism detection programs to assure that the students are putting in the work with integrity.

Care needs to be taken when integrating ChatGPT into the classroom. Emphasizing critical thinking and verification skills when working with ChatGPT is essential to using technology like ChatGPT.

I have reflected on this content and believe a positive ChatGPT can have on education is availability 24/7 that synthesizes internet searches to digestible results. A negative ChatGPT can have on education is offering hallucinations confidently which can purport misinformation. In my classroom, I intend to use this knowledge to guide students in ethical use of AI.

I've learned it's been around a lot longer than I was aware of and that it can be positive in engaging different learning styles, but negative too, if used with the wrong intentions.

Alot of what is learned in this module I did know but wanted to hear more about how to address some of the cons especially the cheating

In this module, I have learned how ChatGPT can be a valuable tool in education by providing personalized support, generating study materials, and assisting with writing and comprehension. I now understand its capabilities, such as helping with explanations, quizzes, and simulations, as well as its limitations, like potential outdated information and the importance of critical thinking when using AI-generated content.

I intend to apply this knowledge by integrating ChatGPT into my learning process for practice exercises, clarifying complex concepts, and improving my writing skills. Additionally, I will use it responsibly to enhance, rather than replace, my own problem-solving and analytical abilities.

I am glad to see the concerns educators have with using chatGPT are already identified concerns of the tool. It is essential that educators follow up with students to ensure accuracy of their submissions, as well as ensuring they have a true understanding of the use of the tool.

I would like to encourage the use of AI to help them understand. I would hope and encourage them to back up whatever answer AI gives them with another reliable source such as their textbooks.

A major positive impact of using ChatGPT is that students can study at their own pace, according to their learning styles, and at any time, i.e., the technology is available 24/7. All above has the potential to improve students' academic performance. However, the negative side is that it also has the potential to diminish students' critical thinking skills if they rely on technology for everything they are going to do, or if they use it to do their work rather than as a support tool.

Greater access to brainstorming ideas to get a jump start on a topic to alleviate writer's block, but balanced with doublechecking to ensure information is not inaccurate/not overwhelming student's own opinion

This coverage is helpful as I am working to create and update policies for teachers and students at my school. We want to strike the right balance and consider both the benefits and risks well.

ChatGPT is a time-saver for anyone who can use it effectively; unfortunately most won't use it effectively, and instead copy and paste responces as their own work instead of using the responces as a basis for an actual submission.

La personalización del aprendizaje

I like the idea of using chat gpt to help with recommendation letters. I always have trouble getting started, then once I do the process is fine and quick. I think utilizing chat GPT will help me  not dread the getting started quite as much and help me no longer procrastinate when it comes to this task.

Comment on Emil Beraun's post: With ChatGPT there could be more resources for instructors. Student usage of ChatGPT may diminish the ability to develop critical thinking skills.

I have learned some new uses for ChatGPT such as creating lessen plans and test questions.

ChatGPT has some positive effects on enhancing the learning process but can also negatively impact students' ability to think critically.
