Activity

I have a few take-aways from this course - I will encourage the CoP (Community of Practice) concepts with my colleagues.

To combat procrastination

  • I will  offer to review assignments if they are turned in at least 48 - 72 hours ahead of the assignment due date.
  • I will communicate frequently with reminders via announcements and emails

To help students with time management,

  • I will include the approximate time other students took to complete an assignment - 45 - 60 minutes or 120 minutes, etc.
  • I will encourage students to plan for breaks in their studying and assignment time.

I plan to include a statement about the average length of time a student has experienced when completing an assignment. I am also going to encourage students that as they work their calendars, they should also include scheduling breaks.

Each online course has a discussion board that is for students to ask questions and communicate with each other. We have found that students do not use this board because it is part of the course in LMS. Perhaps using a social network would encourage interaction with each other.

Professional communicating online is not different than in-person professional communication. Communication should be clean and clear and free from distractions. Keeping the message clean and allowing for the feedback with readjustments is key in keeping dialogue up to date and relevant.

Comment on Vinette Sharp's post: I had not seen the "CPA" abbreviation before. Certainly tis is the type of communication I want to receive and send.

I especially like the idea of using an announcement video. My thought is to use this along with the written announcement, giving students an opportunity to read or listen.

I can see students using ChatGPT when they may not have an thorough understanding of the assignment and I think they may use it when they are running out of time to complete an assignment.

I have learned the benefits of AI but also the possible drawbacks from AI which may include plagiarism or the false assumption by the student that an instructor is not needed. Leaving a question of how does a faculty member know if a student is using AI solely in their submissions?

I am wondering if I might be able to incorporate ChatGPT into open hours for students similar to office hours. Perhaps incorporate into discussion boards.

Seeing the benefits and keeping an open mind. Moving forward, I will review the research to learn how I can incorporate AI into the online educational forum and to influence others to do the same.
