When a Student Isn't Attending

how soon should you report them?

Blaming "Others" Students

You may find it difficult to sort out the difference between a fraudulent excuse and a legitimate one. How many must an instructor take before he/she reports and begin to penalize.

Handling Late or Missed Assignments

Is there a need to attach punishment? Can you give more work as a type of punishment?

Classroom management

I think that the course was great. There were so many important strategies effective techniques to utilize that will enhance the instructor's teaching skills. Classroom management is crucial to having students to gain the knowledge and understanding they need to be successful in their studies.

A HEALTHY "ME" BREAK IN BETWEEN LECTURES AND SESSIONS

How do we alleviate the stress or tension in the classroom, if we ourselves are stressed out? There are situations when students just pushed our buttons to drive us to the point of expressing our own frustrations and stress by our body language. When I feel that I am so stressed out, I put out my little mirror from my bag, put this infront of my computer, and tell myself (smile and don't worry about small stuff, because THIS TOO WILL PASS :-) I give students a little "me" break or me time.

Students' Challenges Outside the Classroom - Do we really care?

This course reenforced my vision to instill with or in my students' minds that WE CARE about their personal challenges outside the classroom. Understanding our own challenges to cope with our struggles with our personal life, academic life, financial life, will strenghthen our belief that students are not only students but also HUMAN beings as well. Oftentimes, when I conduct my class the first hour, I wonder, that my students encounter on their way to school, what are the experiences they encounter at home prior to reaching the school? DO WE REALLY CARE?

Streamlining schedule to include one-on-one outcome assessment

I normally include a schedule to speak with my students one-on-one to update them of their progress. Some students at first are anxious about that the one-on-one meeting is all about. After careful planning, I found that speaking with students using this strategy helps alleviate the tension or stress of just speaking about "grades" but also on being fully connected with students on a human level stressing our or my desire for their improvements.

New Technology

My previous teaching experience was at a public high school. I was using a textbook that had no supplemental materials such as lesson plans, computerized test banks, power point presentations, etc. I had to develop all those materials on my own.I now teach @ a career college that all the materials like the examples listed before are provided. This does not mean that I don't have to prepare my lessons but it eliminates the stress of developing the the examples listed above.

Handling Stress

Exercising and eating right can improve self confidence, which can in turn reduce stress.

Stress.

Stress can be caused by a variety of factors. However, there are many ways to contain or limit stress. One way that I manage stress is exercising. Exercising is a healthy way to reduce stress.

Preparing your Exam

An instructor should review several practice questions from different resources (i.e. publishers and other instructors) as guidelines to help said instructor develop his or her own questions to his or her own style.

Time Management Reduces Stress

Those who procrastinate are actually creating stress for themselves. Instead of procrastinating, an instructor should organize all tasks in order of importance and urgency, which will in turn reduce the stress of worrying about projects that are due.

Silent student

Try saying hello and asking how they are doing on a regular basis to get them out of their shell.

Center of attention

Every class has that one student who wants to be the center of attention. Put them in charge of something so they feel important, hand out papers, etc.

Course objectives

It is important for students to know where they should be at the end of the course.

When Workplace and Home are One

I see the stress caused by each environment and how type of stress is unique to its environment but what happens when those environments are not separate? I teach online, so my work environment is my home environment and vice versa. While I do not think I am overly stressed, what happens if I do become stressed? How do I separate the two or is there a special way that those who work from home have to approach stress?

Procrastination Vs Immediacy

I used to be a slight procrastinator. It was never bad enough that I didn't get my work done or was up all hours trying to finish on time; it was just that sometimes I would put tasks off that I knew I could be doing. Well, I recently had a baby (she's 2 1/2 months old now) and now I face the obstacle of immediacy. I try to finish everything all at once because I don't want to run out of time. I teach online and stay at home with my daughter. We are just now, in the last week or so, establishing a pattern or schedule of sorts but before that I never knew when she would be sleep or fussy so whenever she did sleep I would power grade or try to cram as many tasks in as I could during that time. I think I'm going to try list-making and see if that helps me pace myself better. Any other suggestions for my situation? All are welcome!

From the Beggining

At the start of evry course I am a strong believer that ALL expections should be reveled. I feel if everything is put out there , there can be no misconceptions of ANYTHING that is expected from the course.

Stress relief is my job

Aside from instructing in the massage program, I am also a full time massage therapist at a local spa. My job is to reduce the stress that we all often deal with. Honestly, my suggestion for stress relief is to simply get a massage! They help

high work demands

I absolutely love my job, however, when that job is a lot and then a second job and a full time school schedule is added to it, things get a little stressful
