instructors mistakes

They are not prepared and get worried about it, it is always wise to be prepared about what to do for that class. Another is respected of a student, the best thing is to make sure that the student knows who is boss and that it is ok to be relaxed and not teminated, its ok to joke but when its time to do buisness they need to do the proper instructions that are give, do not get into the "quick sand" and become their friend.

class room management

I think some students need to be told how they are doing so they can see where they are at in the class

class room managment

I really agree with the idea of going over the syllabus with the students. Students offten ask when the home work is due and never turn it in on time. When we have told them time and time again. We do take a acction when they do not turn it in on time. Students need to understand who is boss and there will be a "cut off point".

stratagies

The information I have read is very helpful. Reassures me that I am on the right track with my teaching techniques. Valadate my methods in the calssroom.

New Instructor

I like "Take a note if you are new instructor for the next time Yes I beleive it will be more easy"

Cheating student

Angry Student

Guest Speaker

I do like this option . I will ask my perfect graduates to come for a short visit and talk to the class

Remembering Names

There is some advice on drawing out quiet or shy students in some of the discussions. My problem is it is difficult for me to remember all of my students' names, so I am less likely able to call on the shy ones who don't stand out. I see the Harvard videos the adult students have name cards in front of them, has anyone else used this successfully? Any other suggestions on how you remember the names of the quiet students?

attitude

I have a few students that have had a rough up bringing, and they get attitude when they are asked questions. sometime it is hard to hold composure when they are rude.

students cheating

every week i enter the classroom and tell the students that i am bored with the seating, i make them change every time we take a test and each student gets a different version of the test.

the way you approach a challenging student

I need help on this, no matter what way i approach this student and show him different ways to study, he is not catching on.

turning in homework late

Do you give them full credit when they are absent and they bring a slip from like the doctor or court?

Organization

Being organized sets an example.

SHOUTING

Some instructors think if they raise and lower their voice that they can keep everyones attention. This only scares me while I am trying to concentrate.

Instilling trust

A good rapport and letting students know about their ethical responsibilities can reduce cheatiing.

unprepared students

Motivate to be more prepared by using them as examples.

To Wear a university emblem

I believe it is in poor taste to display another university's emblem (whether shirt or computer bag)while teaching at a different university. Are there rules about this?

cheating online

I have had several spouses and family members take on line courses at the same time and submit similar work. They end up getting similar grades. I really hate that they may be losing out but?

OVERBEARING

I have students who are always typing a comment in the online chat room. Half of the time it is not relevant to the classroom discussion. I am trying to read all posts, answer them, look at my notes, run the computer and review items in the book. I have tried redirecting this student every class. I also set aside time to review the class expectations again noting the request to stay on topic. Your thoughts?
