Knowledge of the Courses Taught

It is important to explain your skills and experience to students so that they will be confident in you teaching them. It also, gives them a future outlook on what is available to them.

Addressing Cheating Students

It is important to address the issue of cheating at the beginning of class to set the expectation of the consequences.

Student's Who Lack Attention

Many of our younger students tend to spend more time outside of class or doing things that do not pertain to the class. It is important to recognize these students and talk to them about what they need to have their full attention.

Different Learning Styles

As an instructor, it is up to us to recognize that each and every student may have a different learning style. It is our responsibility to teach using styles that can reach the full audience in order for our students to succeed.

Plagiarism a Student Problem or an Institutional Problem?

In online class before students even start - I think there should be a required course that deals with the issue of APA style and plagiarism. At a F to F I teach at there is a course that starting students take on APA style and plagiarism by the time students get to my class they have no problems with APA style and plagiarism. At another College that I teach students have no clue and I am constantly faced with plagiarism. Is this the lack of the student disconnecting from true information literacy or is it the lack of training on the part of the institution?

Nonverbal teacher responses

One good point made in this module and one I firmly believe in is that teachers do not always need to verbally respond to student misbehavior. Just moving closer to the student or giving that subtle look can tell the student all they really need to know to get them back on task.

Instructor Image

Very important issue...I always dress the same way I would if working in the industry to demonstrate visually what is required in the world of business.

Student Monitoring

I liked the tip about watching students from the back of the class for cheating....I've used this before and it really helps!

Late/missed assignments

I picked up some good tips on this one!

Stress Management

Find an activity that allows you to unwind from a stressful day at the office. There are so many things you can do at home like taking your dog for a walk, feed your tropical fish and watch them eating, do some gardening or cooking. Another way is to find a hobby that allows you to be in a calming place like fishing. I enjoy working with clay on a potters wheel and making my handcrafted soaps, even though its my second job i find is very soothing to be in my zone when making them. Actually i am making a batch today to unwind from an incident early this week.

Letting Go

I know that we have all encountered a stressful moment either in the classroom or co-workers. Sure we can stress out with the issue and its shortcomings, but where does it end. I say just learn to let it go and move on. Resentment is worst than stress and you know that whatever outcome..........It is what it is. Life is to short to deal with all the b.s associated with stress.

Stress Reduction

Do your job to the best of your abilities and be prepared at all times so that your upper management cannot give you a hard time for not doing so.

Priority List

When creating a priority list I review with my students on which menu items that take the longest to prepare. For example if we are doing a braised shortrib, this must take priority over our chicken noodle soup. In the past we used production schedules to help students break down the time structure of their day. I use the same priority list when lecturing the days content. I use the same structure by discussing the steps suggested for the days lesson plan by debriefing the longest to shortest menu item. I find that the students who follows my lead are the ones who can complete all of their dishes in the amount of time given.

students must have respect for the instructor

many times students do not have respect for the instructor by not followqing rules And regulations of the class

have all students conduct a forum

have all students conduct a lecture in fronr of the class

work with students who interrupt class

have them get the interruptions out of their systems

use more hands on

use models and power point and pictures

Coping With Stress

I rely on my spiritual faith to help me to deal with stressors. I have also found that talking about situations that have caused me stress helps me to cope. The key is not keep bringing up negative situations and at some point let them go from your mind.

Stressing Out

Career schools' expectations for the instructors are different from that of non-career schools. Career school instructors have to balance so many things. Things such as getting good instructor surveys and at the same time manage the behaviors of undisciplined students. Then there is attrition. Many students feel that they should be spoon fed their educations just because they are paying tuition. Entering into school is a big step for many students and many think that they have arrived. What they haven't accepted is the fact that they can get an education but if they maintain the same negative behaviors, attitudes and work ethics they will not be successful in the workforce. They may have a hard time getting hire. All of these scenarios can cause instructors to experience on going stress.

Common Reasons why students cheat

Lack of studying and confidence in one abilities leads to cheating
