This is it

This is the kind of information I am going to make my next semister lesson plans with. WHOOOHOOO!!!

Learning styles

Getting to know the students early on will help them feel at ease and allow the instructor to understand their individual learning styles.

Lecture

I think having a variety of different teaching tools is important for all learning styles to benifit. Some students may need hands on time , whike others are visual learners. It is important to develope those tools over time.

learning styles

It is so important these days to take into consideration the different styles of learning. Lecture is an important part of teaching, however it can sometimes be mundane and boring. Breaking up a lecture with interactive segments, games, and group brain storming has been very affective for me these days.

Learning to discipline

I am teaching for the first time and I have never been in a situation where I have had to "discipline" anyone. I have some students in my class that tend to talk too much at times. I am struggling to find ways to control this behavior and also to be more assertive with them. Is this something that gets easier with time?

Relevent course material

Whats the best way to find relevant material for your course?

Clear Expectations

How do you make your expectations clear to students?

Learning Environment

Whats the best way to establish a positive learning environment?

How to develop a teching style

Whats the best way to develop a teaching style

Redirecting Questions

I think a key point is to continually ask questions of the students. I like the idea of a student asking a question and having another student try to answer it.

Different Learning Styles

I think that it is important to know the different learning styles of the students. I like the idea of assessing the students prior to class to know what style works for them.

simulations effectiveness

I think simulations are a great way to create real life situations for learning. However, I think they need to be tied up to some kinda accountability or consequence for not meeting the goal, otherwise students think its just a game and nothing will come out of them

What to do?

I understand and am delighted with my student's desire to get to the "meat and potatoes" of the course, but what is the best way to engage them on the classes that are not as exciting to them, such as English or Math?

Shocking statement!

many times when I start to lose my group, i say a few shocking statements, something outrageous, but related to the topic. It could be something simple as...admitting what I did wrong In banquets, I started my class by talking about thet first time I did everything wrong..by the book, and I notice I immediately get their attention.

games in the classroom

I think that having question and answer games , get more students involved. They seem to remember the material better. It pulls out the shy/insecure ones. This seems to balance the class more. They have their own discussions. Which many times make more sense to them.

First Time in class

As a new instructor I believe it is important to set the expectation and standards high the first day. This helps to lift the classes efforts in making those gaols set by the instuctor.

multiple-choice tests

this is a great tool that i printed out that helps students understand how to breakdown multiple choice questions. i will chare it with my students so they can get that extra help for there exam

Formative evaluations

this is great because it gets the student involved, and the teacher can help the student reach their goals, and acomplish thir mini goals.

Socratic Method of Teaching

its a great tool to use, because there are many students that are afraid to speak up and answer a question. This helps the student understand the question better, and really helps the instructor and all students. I loved that it shows you what to do when students don't answer a question, or get it wrong.

learner

this is a great tool to use in class. It has allowed me to undertand differnt learners, and how it is important in my everyday class time.
