organization and class preparation.

Having handouts and materials ready is crucial. In a lab environment having all necessary chemicals, instruments, or any other materials will show preparedness. I have these items neatly put away to show students that setting up for the project is part of real world expectations. I feel this reduces the "my way or high way" option because students can set up the work stations which will work best for them to be more efficient while still teaching responsibility and accountability if the students do not have everything they need. Is this a logical way of doing things?

Bloom's Taxonomy

Though I have heard about Bloom's Taxonomy seemingly forever, it wasn't until I took this course that I became aware of the impact this concept can have regarding creating clear and concise lesson plan objectives. I look forward to incorporating these techniques.

Guest Speakers

I try to have former students and professionals come into the classroom as guest speakers. It allows the students to see someone succeed in their field. I have invited former students to discuss the licensing registration process and what it was like taking their licensing boards. The present students are able to see share their worries and ask questions related to this important topic. Robbin

extra credit

I never liked giving extra credit since it appears to dilute the grading system for the student. I am open to other ideas that might work to change my thoughts.

night students and homework

I have found that a high percentage of night students have families and also work full time. How successful is the use of homework when it just gets done as a 'busy work' assignment?

media selection for extrovert students

What is the best media selection used to have the highest impact on extrovert-type students?

field trips for night classes

What ideas can you share for those of us who teach night classes that would like to include field trips in our course content?

make up exams

Determine the time limit for make up tests.

Extra Credit

In my experience, having extra credit projects readily available for students to voluntarily complete is motivating and keeps them focused on class content.

Standardized Testing

Determining the reading and math levels of students before beginning classroom instruction is extremely helpful to instructors.

Power Point Presentations

I attempt to create PP presentations to introduce every new topic. They are quick and easy to prepare and students respond well to this visual presentation of material.

organization

I love printing on colored paper and/or with colored ink whenever possible because it really assists students with organization and quickly attracts their attention.

latest technology

introducing technology to the class room is a fun exciting way to keep student engaged when you are planning on using new support materials. how far would you go in a class setting with new technology?

understanding learning objectives

to be honest this is my first time learning anything about taxonomy of learning. This process of learning will a better understanding to lesson plan construction and preparations. Is knowing taxonomy of learning still relevant for today's learning?

lesson plans documentation

lesson plans give a ready source of information and ideas as you plan for the next time you will teach the course and strive to expand your instructional expertise, but how many lesson plans would be fitting for a subject....?

preparing lesson plans

I do believe that knowing your audience is the most important thing. if you take the opportunity to know your students teaching contents will be much easier. knowing what they know and what they don't know identifying strength and weakness you will know what area to target.

Rubric Use for Evaluation

I find having a rubric for assignments that the skills expected to be acquired are not very clear. I feel a rubric helps the students decide how to study or practice for the assessment. I give a version slightly different than the actual final evaluation rubric. I am wondering if this is helpful, or should the rubric be given just before the assessment? I do hands on training, but this course made me question my method, which I think if they know what to practice they will know how to practice more effectively.

Classroom Preparation

I teach students how to cook and one of the classroom tools we like to implement is to make a food timeline sheet or production schedule. This allows my students to think and analyze the entire process of preparing their required food dishes in a timely manner. The goal is to work backwards by figuring out which dish takes the longest to cook. I will ask my class to do some additional research online and use technology to see different variations on these cooking skills can be applied to their daily lesson plan. The outcome for those who do the work is amazing ^_^

Conceptual Groups

At times I will implement my students to get together in smaller groups when creating a menu to create. This reinforces the learning objectives as the group can see the bigger picture at the end. Not only that it creates great teamwork within the group, it reinforces their self esteem at the same time.

Daily Outlines

One of the tools that I used on a daily basis is my go to daily journal. Inside it has all the key points that I need to cover and often times I will add in additional information pending on each class demographics. Stronger classrooms I will discuss and allow them to group together to problem solve a problem, normal classrooms I stick to the basic as the material can be a bit overwhelming for them. Bottom line these tools keeps me on point with my lectures and demoes ^_^
