Admissions

I would love to hear tips on how to manage relationships with students as they move on through the admissions and enrollment processes.  We often lose touch and want to touch base with students but it is difficult to follow through sometimes.

I've always made time to see all my students at one point or the other, its been my experience to keep an open door policy as to whatever issue the student may have.

Having a small private school helps with keeping up with students as they go through the admissions and enrollment process.  Also encouraging students to follow the school through social media helps keep in contact.  Getting involved with community activites as a school team and motivating the students to participate keeps the needs and concerns of all students up front as well.  I enjoy each student and get to know a specific and important detail of each student to also let the student that we support them all the way.

I am high school admissions rep and it is imparitive to stay in touch with your students on a regular basis. The fact that I work with high school seniors it may be  little different for you. I have found that text messages are the best means of contact. As you know this is the age of technology and high school kids no nothing but texting and internet. You also have to set reminders on your calendar threw your work computer and mobile device. I hope this helps!

I always like to keep in touch with the students, some times they need somebody to listen to them.

I am not able to solve their problems but by listening they feel somebody cares, and that is all they need. to go on with their program.

As a student is accepted or enrolled in your institution an initial contact of congratulations is a start to keep them drawn back to you. After they are enrolled, you have a financial aid meeting perhaps which gets them back in the building. After these initial contacts, engage them by inviting them to guest speaker meetings at your facility, or Upcoming Open houses where enrolled students can get to know one another. If you allow students to choose roommates perhaps this would be another way to engage them back at campus. Have a get together for all interested students to meet and find roommates on campus. Have a day in the life of your college students to generate excitement. All of these things can help to keep the excitement. Also sending them some type of cool mailer occasionally might be another way to let them know they are wanted. Most students don't want to be bothered, but they still have the desire to be wanted or recruited. It's a fine line, but some of the above methods may help. It really depends on the student. Another way would be to have an online chat, facebook, instagram, or other social media site that would engage them and keep them interacting with you. Good luck. I hope something here helps.

This is great information, I thank you all for your comments. Engage, engage, engage them, keep the rapport going. Evie's comment is so true, some times a person just needs a listening ear!

I love the book that one of the senior reps put together for me to keep track of everything from appt sets, no shows, enrollments, etc. I feel that it is very helpful by keeping a log because it serves as a backup when you have become very busy with other job-related agendas. I also agree that donig the initial congratulations and keeping the students excited. Eventually they will want to come and visit regularly and they will speak highlyl of the rep that has built a strong rapport. Chances are they will refer others on a regular basis as well.

I also use social media. It seems like almost everyone has a Face Book account. We have a school FB page and invite students to join. We share jobs, spaces to rent, CEU's and even events that we are sponsering. It is awesome and keeps us all together.

At the school that I work for we also engage engage engage! What ever I can do to keep in contact with the potential student and to keep them coming back in! I am brand new to Admissions and I am loving it so far! I never thougth this would be a job that I would love but I do!

A good way to keep in touch with your students is through social media. We have a facebook page for our school and we send friend requests to all of our students. Also, having a current email address on file is another to keep in touch with your students.
