effective tools

I enjoyed the new knowledge.

Find something positive first

It is not good to rush to judge someone.  It is a good idea to first find something right that the person did, and emphasizing that good point, and then gradually introduce what needs to be worked on.  All of these can be done with effective results without offending the person receiving the feedback.

Things that are hlpful for me

I try to include humor in my presentations, it does seem to break the ice. Moving around the room, eye contact, engaging the students and asking different students questions seems to make my presentations go smoothly. Most of the time.

Communication is key

No surprise it is important to have good communication between your peers. Information can be misconstrued in many ways, so it is important to be detailed and thorough as possible so there is no ambiguity. Good communication will open channels of trust and honesty--a goal all faculty, staff, and team members should strive towards.

Effective Listening

Stop, listen and then act or speak, acknowleding the presence and sentiments of your audience.

Told a colleague I could not do a particular favor any longer

I was uncomfortable always being asked to do a favor by a co-worker.  I assessed the situation and took him aside and shared that I would no longer be willing to do the favor.  I did not expound upon my reasons, because we do not have a whole lot of interaction in the workplace so it was not high stakes.  It turned out to be the right decision because our relationship has been preserved and I no longer feel put upon, which had been my original problem.

Great Communication

Great information regarding good communication having a positive and effect to others.

Feedback & Praise

Where I believe everyone needs positive feedback to reinforce desired behaviors, I also believe when it is offered, a self-assessment question to the receiver should be asked first.  For example: "Wow, now that the meeting you conducted is finished, how do you feel about it?"  If a person feels a lot differently than you do about the outcome, it may be best to focus on that before offering your praise.  Praise can actually de-motivate people if given when they feel they could have done more to prepare or have ideas they want to try to improve their future actions.

Effective Communications

great!

Communication,

We can never underestimate the power of honesty and transprency.  We need to lead by example, if we are hiding behind issues and not open with our employees, we have failed as an organization, and sometime the people actually doing the work, have great ideas and offer great solutions, We are actively utilizing LEAN efforts in our organization and we have all levels of personell involved with change management.  It is terrific ways to save expense cost, better quality of life at all levels are proven.

Receiving Criticism

Criticism can be very difficult to hear. It is important to respond in a way that can help you grow as a person in the workplace. It is crucial for both the person receiving the feedback and the person delivering the feedback are being heard. Although it can be difficult to hear, some criticism can be very helpful.

I love the information on giving feedback

I have to constantly share feedback with my students and this is always an area that I struggle in. This tutorial helped me understand some ways to give feedback appropriately. I loved when it discussed ways that you can show that your information is serious, but you can show concern for the employee/student through your body language.

Great knowledge!

I think communication can be the single most important thing in the workplace and classroom. This tutorial had great information on different types of communication that I haven't considered before. I will think of this tutorial often to ensure I am using the most effective form of communication.

gives me a better understanding of how to deal with certain issues inside of the work place and to better understand where co workers are coming from.

Difficult Interactions

Conflict in the workplace is a natural occurance of interacting with one another and cost of resolving conflict is relative to the cost of leaving clnflicts unresolved.  Although it is best to determine whether it is a long or short term working relationship when deciding whether or not to addresses.  In all instances in conflict resolution it is always best to work on your listening skills to be objective, empathic and open to trying to understand the other person's feelings and underlying issues that may change the dynamics of each situation.

Success of the presentation is largely determined by the degree of interaction between the Presenter and the Audience.
