About me

Chef instructor.

Activity

I have found that my younger students (under 25) prefer working in groups.  They are more comfortable in that model.  However, when it comes time for them to be accountable with the knowledge they were supposed to have acquired, many defer that it was their partner's responsibility.  So, whenever possible I have students work individually so that they pick up the skills that they will need in our industry.

I just completed the Coaching course and found it quite applicable to classroom situations as well as when managing employees.  I want the best from my students all the time -- coaching can help me get there.

I agree, ED112 was a good course to consider the motivations of our adult learner students.  I did not care for the all-audio presentation, but the information was good and clearly presented.

I liked the ideas for reducing stressors in our lives as well.

I liked the recommendation to use technology appropriately.  Many chefs are not techno-savvy.  :)

As a culinary instructor, some of the information was common sense in this course.  However, the final quiz did not really cover what was covered in the course -- it read as a "what not to do" as a culinary instructor.  I can see how this would be geared more towards GenEd instructors in a culinary school.

I agree with Nichelle.  I post all relevant info on my board every day as well as having all course material on our Portal system.  Some of my younger students (just out of high school) need a bit of reminding, but I try not to nag.
