Listening

Definitely listening is a skill, that requires lots of practice. As Nurses we are taught to fix problems not to facilitae conversations. We need to shift from fixing problems to being facilitaters.

Agreed Maria on Listening.  Amazing enough, people/patients/students know what is needed to fix their own problems, however if we just acknowledge their feelings and assist in facilitating their current resources they will feel heard, validated and respected.  Some problems may not be fix imediatedly, and some will need time to work out the resources at the time to fix other problems.  Help them break it down to small pieces verses one huge problem and crisis.  Great insight, thanks.
