Very informative with a variety of great new methods to incorporate into teaching!

New Faculty

I am new faculty, this course has given me a lot of information needed to help make my first class and teaching career a success. I look forward to using this new knowledge in the classroom.

Flexibility

Not every student fits into the same peg. I work hard to hit lessons on many levels to keep my students engaged and wanting to learn. I have found that in my class instead of having my students perform a silent individual study, that they benefit from a team orientated game that allows each team to have one player that has to race to get an answer from the rest of the group to gain points. It inspires the use of knowledge to gain the correct answer and makes it fun while learning. Flexibility to have a little fun while… >>>

mechanical

I can see how this could work in some settings . But in my line [Bike Mechanic ] I do no see how it would work.

Training Session Feedback

I am very happy that I did this session. It reaffirmed many steps I learned when I began teaching. After 18 years I loss sight of somethings and I will start yousing them again. One in particular concerned greeting the students as they arrive. Another is using the index cards to gather information about each student. I always share with them the type of learner I am and how this knowledge helps me. Ninety percent of the student have been out of school for a while {as noted}, and have no idea about how they are going to meet this challenge.… >>>

Know your students, be a full-time instructor, daily support, and permanent role model

Know your students, be a full-time instructor, daily support, and permanent role model

Student(s) in career college programs and bachelor’s programs alike, are looking to their instructors as their role models, managers and motivators. The best thing you can do, as an instructor, is to model yourself as all three. Give them the information and offer a plethora of examples so that they know you bring expertise to the table and you are part of their valuable education. Help them to manage their time. Sometimes students come into a college atmosphere and don't have very good time management skills,… >>>

Best Practices

This was an awesome reminder of what is effective and right course of action. It was also a gentle reminder of what is not best practices. I was glad I took the course and wish I could have taken more time to complete it then rushing it through. I will reflect back on the concepts and incorporate new best practices. Grateful for the support.

Ways to integrate active learning in the classroom

I typically use the lecture/discussion method of teaching but will plan on using more small group work and brainstorming in my lessons.

Adaptation of Learning Goals to real world experience.

In an environment where learning directly transfers to a job related skill, having learning goals that are usable and relavent are necessary. Also, being able to sucessfully test the knowledge a student has gained, along with their ability to perform tasks related to the learning goals are an important part of the stratgey.

Great Program

Glad I had the chnace to take this class!

Expectations

In order to deliver content to a class, they will need to know that you know what you are doing as an instructor, are a professional, and can run the class. These delivery components are crutial in accomplishint that.

First Teaching Certificate of Completion

I would like to share my happiness in my completion of this first step of accomplishment into a new field of teaching. I will continue to strive for the better in helping myself in learning the proper way, with personal adjustments to help teach with confidence and positive outcomes for my students.

Best, Joseph Garcia

How to approach a new class

Being new to the teaching industry this course definitely helped me in seeing new ways to approach a new class. It also helped me to see different ways that I can start a class and different teaching methods that I can use when entering the room. I enjoyed learning this course! It helped me get another insight in how everyone learns in different ways. The Harvard learning videos were very helpful!

Basics for classroom instruction

Alot of good common sense information included in ED 101.

Flipped Classroom

My goal in my classes is to engage students and continue to develop an active learning environment. I find that simply lecturing can be boring. Following this course I plan to use videos and reading assignments so the students can come to class prepared for an activity. We will then have discussions to build up on the pre-class learning. If I'm being honest completely flipping the classroom worries me as I have listened to students complain about "teaching themselves" I now need to balance that.

Training insight

This training gave me needed tools for teaching and helping students to acheive success and goals.
