I will make sure to post optional videos for extra learning and helpful resources and I will check in with students weekly.
Since many of my students are older, returning students who are hampered by technical skills, I plan to have a pre-class, optional session to help them navigate sources, practice basic skills.
I learned it is essential to have students have technological understanding to be utilized for their learning tools.
I learned that online learning is also allowing students to engage and socialize with their peers through their online learning experiences.
I order to be successful in the online learning experience the student should have basic knowledge of technology.
Using the many different tools for online learning will enhance the experience.
Students need to understand the difference between their social networking and your professional networking....and the boundaries. Also understand there will be some students (usually older) that do not want this in their class what-so-ever.
In this module I learned that communication using social networking and social media are different. While it is important for students to apply this, it must benefit them in a way that will allow them to "network" with others while using social media responsibly.
I believe it's important to understand students' technical limitations, but we also need to have all the contact info. for LMS and institutional tech support ready. We can't lose time we need to facilitate the learning of course content for the majority of the class members while teaching basic computer skills to a few. I appreciate the tips on helping them assess their own readiness, setting expectations early via the syllabus and course shell, and creating a writing guide.
I have learned that it is important not to assume that online students have access or knowledge on using all online tools. As instructors, we need to find a way to provide this access to all students if the course is requiring it to be used.
i learned that using social networks can be a source of networking and engagement for the students.
I have learned that social networking sites can help increase student engagemnet
Instructors should review asynchronous communication tools to evaluate which tools would be most essential for online communication with their students.
Learned that students should feel empowered in their learning environment and not rely solely on receiving that information from the teacher.
I learned the importance of real time social networking utilizing social media allowing the sharing of information and knowledge in real time.
The differences between Asynchronous Vs Synchronous especially the importance of Asynchronous communication that allows for more flexibility in timing, accommodating different schedules.
Overall communication online using several methods is the key due to the fact that their will be more writing which is crucial to establishing a procedure for communication via blogs, discussion boads etc.
I have learned the importance of synchronous and asynchronous communication in online course.
I learned that using different forms of communication will help you understand how each student functions. Not each student is going to want to communicate the same way so after speaking and evaluating each student you will know who like what, and what is easier for each student.
I learned the value of using both asynchronous and synchronous tools to keep students engaged and connected in the online environment. I plan to apply this by balancing tools like email, discussion boards, and blogs with real-time options such as web conferencing and instant messaging to build community and improve communication. I also see the importance of posting “how-to” guides and encouraging feedback on the learning space so students feel supported and better prepared for success.
It's impotant to familiarize yourself with all types of technology, as they are all useful tools.
