Engaging online learners can vary from person to person needs. Be prepared to adapt to different types of students.
A very helpful tool is motivation; help to build a student's confidence by showing confidence in their ability and work.
It is important to reach out to students and allow them to be familiar with you.
Asynchronous discussion is important as it provides students who have other responsibilities to engage in education at their own pace while still providing structure to the learning. Synchronous and asynchronous both have their place in online courses.
Having multiple strategies to engage with students gives them options how to connect with them either Synchronous or Asynchonous.

I enjoyed learning about the synchronous/asynchronous methods in this module. Thoughtful use of these helps build rapport, encourages open communication, and promotes student success.
I appreciated the review from this model about the appropriate uses for asynchronous/synchronous discussion boards, and what material is appropriate as well.
What I learned from the module is that the choice between synchronous and asynchronous formats depends on the conditions under which the course is conducted; both have pros and cons for students, but the goal is to manage them effectively and adapt the approach to the specific type of course being taught—while also maintaining constant contact with the students.
It is important when to use synchronous discussions and nonsynchronous discussions with the students during online classes. It is also important to give feedbacks to students so they know how they are doing.
Benefit of asynchronous discussions and adding your reply at the end of the discussion. Preparing a rubric for consistent grading. Private chats for one on one. Synchronous discussions through chat during the class. Why some participate during synchronous and asynchronous chats/discussions and how to increase participation.
Engagement is vital in learning and requires active instructional oversight to stimulate and influence meaningful discussions.
Continuous engagement and interesting topics with accurate information stimulate students' interactive learning.
Some students do better in synchronous vs. asynchronous environments and it is important that curriculum is delivered in a way to attends to both of those needs.
It can make a world of difference of students when you actively participate in the course while also providing feedback that is not only useful but shows that you are part of a learning community.
Successful online instruction depends on clear communication, organization, timely feedback, active engagement, and a strong instructor presence. An effective e-learning environment provides students with clear expectations, accessible resources, meaningful interactions, and ongoing support.
