Effective Teaching Strategies --> Planning and Preparation
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
I learned that planning and preparing sets you up for success. Arriving early allows you to be prepared for when students come. Being able to talk with them before class starts, be available for them, or just allow time to get to know each other will help you as the instructor and the students to be more engaged.
Through this module i have learned to be aware of the curriculum and the resources i am using and how i can use it more efficiently to reach the students and be prepared.
Being prepared set the tone of your class.
Talking to my students to see what they feel would help them learn.
Preparation is key. The more a instructor is prepared for their class, the better the learning environment will be for the student.
I learned that effective planning and preparation create smoother lessons, clearer objectives, and a more engaging learning experience for students. I plan to apply this by being as overly prepared as possible so my classes run efficiently and I can adapt confidently to whatever surprises come up.
Preparation is key. The more a instructor is prepared for their class, the better the learning environment will be for the student. When an instructor is organized and prepared for class, it can reduce a lot of anxiety especially as a new instructor. This helps with providing students with an learning environment that they feel safe and confident in thier instructor along with the material they have learned.
I enjoyed the focus on preparing for both the expected and unexpected.
Effective learning strategies I think begin with a syllabus, letting the students know about the course and expectations for this class. Getting to know your students as they walk in makes me feel more comfortable about talking with them about the curriculum. Having the classroom organized and structured also lets the students know that you are serious about their education.
Keeping in mind the student's perspective of the class helps the instructor create a welcoming environment for the students and allows the student to feel some type of ownership in the course climate. Also, setting clear expectations at the beginning of the course helps each student to understand their role in the class and perform more accurately and timely.
Enthusiasm starts the first day and the first minute you meet your students. Being prepared is the key!
Proper planning and preparation, as well as a well thought out and concise syllabus is key and essential to the success of the student and instructor alike.
Purposeful prior planning prevents poor performance. Cannot be emphasized enough.
Demonstrating proper planning and preparation for your class is a huge opportunity to model good behavior for your students. I've also found that it helps with establishing boundaries with the class. Professors that appear chaotic in their approach to teaching indirectly encourage their students to take their lessons less seriously.
i like getting to school early so i can make a positive atmosphere for the students greeting the students let them know your prepared for them and removes barriers.
When watching the Harvard Business video I learned that not only showing up early or on time makes you prepared. Being prepared to teach a class means engaging with your students is important as well. In preparation for class he asked one student what her and her group had read, to me that was very insightful. That one simple question can give him knowledge of what his students were able to complete and what they thought of the articles. This helped me understand that when asking students these questions it can help you gage on where to go next in your lesson plan or how to better adapt your teaching so students can be more successful.
I have learned in this module that preparedness will go along way when it comes to being the best professor I can be.
I see the value in allocating time to set up the learning environment early. I think it's important to note that this means building it into our existing work schedule. As a nurse, it has been an experience of myself and many of my peers in past roles to "stay a little extra" or "come in early" to make sure things get taken care of. This can result in fatigue and burn out and requires checking in with ourselves to maintain self-care and healthy work-life boundaries. As a new instructor I want to make sure I'm able to plan time to set up the learning environment before my student arrive, to create the most engaging experience. But I also want to make sure I don't take this out of my personal time, and balance my work schedule appropriately.
I learned that coming early and reviewing the materials I plan to use is essential. I also learned that I have been lazy since I've been teaching the same class for a number of years. My choice of goals and objectives have basically been left up to the school, rather than what will be most effective for the students. I need to work at my craft more instead of just riding on my experience.
