What I got out of this model is be aware of who you are and meld that identity into who you are as an instructor. It will be much easier to keep a class engaged if you are keeping core components of yourself within your instructor persona
I have learned to make sure that I am always leading by example. I also learned that my students will be enthusiastic and excited about learning if I am enthusiastic and excited about teaching, I set the tone.
Instruction should always be student centered, and student focused. Modeling the professionalism you would like to see in yourself and your colleagues is one of the best ways to exemplify to students the expectations and professionalism that will allow them to reach their professional goals. Teaching is also a learning process that requires humility and self reflection in order to refine your ability to successfully teach and engage students.
Biggest key point or me was the 3 M's (Model, Manage, Motivate) be a leader in all aspects of the class you're teaching.
From the moment we are planning our course to the moments we meet our students, we need to be mindful of the importance of modeling professionalism. We can also model passion for the content throughout the delivery of the content. Equally important, we need to demonstrate a genuine interest and attitude of caring with the students.
Can take on being a model, manager or motivator. Lead by example and be the professional example the students can model after. Ask for help and be prepared.
It is very important as the instructor, to be professional in every aspect of the instructional atmosphere. Being a nursing educator, I feel it is important to demonstrate to the students their need to be punctual, dressed professionally, and use proper language. My modeling this will set the standards required of them in the professional workforce.
I liked the first video that was shown... you dont have to convince your students you are the most knowledgeable. Be humble. Convince them that you love the subject and the rest will follow. It is important to encourage and support our students and best to lead by example.
Key take aways for me: know your craft (technical), be professional (lead by example), be personal (be approachable).
Model the behavior you expect from your students, learn and adapt the teaching style that is comfortable for you and still facilitate student learning.
Effective learning should be the objective.
There is always room for growth and development, I'm not sure if this is it.
It takes more than professional experience to lead in the classroom.
Knowledge is fluid, it always changes, As an instructor, one learns as much from students as students learn from instructors, and no one knows everything. Our job as faculty is to try to lead on a journey to knowledge, a journey we should take together, but lead.
Model the behaviors you wish to have displayed, continual learning, be prepared!!
This module has lied out a good framework to move forward with things I know and things to consider.
Reflecting on the past and analyzing previous teachers who left an impression on you, figuring out what characteristics they modeled can help in leading you to success. Developing a Professional development plan can assist you with the information you gather during your reflection.
Be prepared for class, look to model, manage and motivate students.
