Help Students Understand Learning Goals | Origin: EC153

This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Strengthening CTE Instruction with Clear Learning Goals --> Help Students Understand Learning Goals

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

I love the idea of having the students rewrite the learning goals in their own words. It allows the students to better understand the goal and gives the instructor a clearer picture of how the students are interpreting the goal.

I want my students to understand that you only get as much as you put in to learning a trade. If you're lazy and sloppy, you're work will come out looking lazy and sloppy. If you're engaged and give 100% effort, You'll most likely gain small tips and tricks along the way and physically working on something may come more natural and easy. I'd want them to know in the real world it's a mindset or amount of effort you put in to your craft and people will notice.

Comment on Randice Nelson's post: This is a great takeaway Randice! Thank you for sharing. What strategies do you use in the classroom to keep students aware of and accountable for their goals?

Comment on Robyn Bingham's post: Robyn, this is a fantastic personal goal. How will you know when you've achieved it? What strategies are you using in the classroom to see if your goal is working? Please share so we can learn with you!

I want my students to understand the real world implications for their chosen career and give them clear learning goals so that they can have more control over their learning. They will gain a sense of ownership over their educational journey and are more likely to achieve the success they want.

I took away how to keep students accountable for their goals, understand their learning goals, and maintain full insight of their goals.
