Clear goal settings can be beneficial during job interviews. I learned the STAR approach to explaining a challenging situation that I faced when asked to do so. 

I love this strategy:  Have them write their goals for the day on a note card. Ask them to rate how likely they are to achieve the goal (on a scale of 1 to 5) and what help they need to achieve it. As students begin to work, quickly review the notecards and target your support accordingly.

I love the idea of having the students rewrite the learning goals in their own words. It allows the students to better understand the goal and gives the instructor a clearer picture of how the students are interpreting the goal.

Providing clear goals benefits every student in the course. It allows students to build confidence in their learning, be more motivated, and engaged in lessons. Having clear learning goals also helps the instructor plan and execute lessons based on student learning variability.
