Instead of running from the challenges, it is important to clearly identify them. If you know the challenges, it will allow you to help provide tools to overcome them. Providing support and resources will allow the student to solve their own problems while creating confidence that will prove to be beneficial while in school.

Improving student resourcefulness is a critical component of an ethical enrollment process. One of the most important things you can do is help your prospective students address their challenges by helping them to be more resourceful in discovering options for themselves.

Addressing challenges and concerns can be an intimidating task for an admissions professional, especially if they are unsure of what approach to take. Prospective students would probably not bother to raise concerns if they were not at least somewhat interested in the school. If a student flat-out refuses to voice a concern or is unwilling to discuss Attributes become powerful when they can be turned into a benefit for your prospect. A school’s attribute becomes a benefit when it addresses the prospect’s condition of satisfaction and can provide a response to the questions, it is best to move on. The goal is for the student to make their own best decision.

Listening, internalizing, and responding in a way that shows you're heard the student helps develop a connection and show of respect. Respect seems to be fundamental in the exchange.

Comment on John Doak's post: Agreed!

To acknowledge student's feelings and concerns is very important during the admissions process.

Love this sentiment:  pause to get your student's agreeement to continue moving ahead.

Establishing an ethical enrollment process is crucial for ensuring fairness, transparency, and trust.

Practice validating, normalizing, and neutralizing!

Adding value is what connects the attributes to the goals of the student.

The 3rd step is definitely critical to the rest of the enrollment process. If the student does not mutually agree with moving forward you will lose in the end

Use your resources to create the best pathway. Get to know the prospect to assist in their choices

Giving an example of an experience from another student and then asking them what they see as a benefit good strategy. I believe this is a good lesson for seeking common ground towards agreement.

Having a personalized tour while being as helpful as possible to how the programs being discussed can benefit the students. Students may not always feel as though a program is the best fit for them but having the opportunity to lead them into the direction of a program can possibly have them re-think their decision.

Offer lists of resources to them when they have a barrier that they can't seem to figure out on their own. Be honest, don't tell people what they want to hear. Be empathetic. Its okay if they don't choose your school.

Get students agreement before moving forward
