Debra,
We must constantly strive to keep on learning and share that knowledge.
I always look at our Institution's calendar for possible training updates or meeting seminars to attend to update any outdated info that I may have.
Keep in contact with the director and staff members to stay up to date with whats going on with the school.
in addition to the Catalog, the handbook and the rules and regs manual, I plan to meet with the department heads to obtain more information about their department, also I will meet with the student advisers to keep up to date with each program and to discuss job placement strategies that they use. I also plan to sit on a few classes and attend a clinical experience. I will tell all personnel to keep me informed and send me up-to-date information of any changes that occur; I will also contact them periodically to obtain information. I will also ask for Standards of Licensure and an Accreditation Manual.
Millie,
Sounds like a great plan focused on keeping up-to-date and continual learning.
Zyria,
Excellent advice! Staff members love to talk about what they do!
We schedule regular training meetings with our Deans and additional departments in order for us to stay current with knowledge and changes. This allows us to acurately share information with our prospective students.
We have a weekly meeting with all Dept Heads, Campus Director to discuss any changes, problems, future plans, etc. Then, the admissions dept has a weekly meeting outlining any changes that would affect their dept. We also use email to communicate changes that need to be implemented immediately.
Communication is the key, the internet is great as well, trusted sites that is.
Rick,
So many exciting things are happening in our classrooms. Keeping a good relationship with your education department will provide a better insight and develop product knowledge.
Geraldine,
You bring up an important point! The internet is great, but you have to trust the site!
Margie,
Sounds like you have a great communication link between staff.
just keep on reading all info that i can and add as i go
We have the same program. Having periodical meetings like this gets the admissions staff more involved with the programs. In many cases this involvement is passed onto the prospective students and brings a level of excitement to the programs discussed.
John,
There is a personal excitement that comes with increased knowledge of the program. Prospective students will catch it!
I am new to my institution and I want to make sure that I know as much as possible about my institution and the job descriptions of everyone on the staff. We have meetings in where every representative and program chair as well as the Director of Recruitment are present and we discuss updates. I also started an excel spread sheet with each program, level, program title, clock, credit hours, and delivery method. I also am planning on sitting in a few classes as well as speaking with Career Services.
Kelly,
Your spreadsheet is a great idea giving quick reference to your program offerings.
Dale,
Don't forget to ask questions...
The best way to keep up to date with changes is keeping in daily contact with your Manager of Recruitment.
Cesar,
Excellent advice! Keep the communication lines open.
