Effective Online Assessment
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
I have learned the assessment technique before, during, and after an online activity using the stool technique.
I have learned how to create an online assessment integrity planner.
Online assessments provide opportunities to further enhance student learning. Though, appropriate planning and administration is essential.
Very interesting online curse
The biggest takeaway for me is the “three-legged stool” idea... assessments before, during, and after a lesson. If one is missing, the whole thing is off. Before checks what students know, during guides them, and after shows what they learned.
Feedback also stood out. Online, you don’t get those quick in person moments, so timely (and even voice) feedback matters a lot more.
I liked the approach to cheating, not trying to eliminate it altogether, but designing better, scenario based questions that force actual thinking instead of easy lookups.
Going forward, I’d make sure I’m using all three types of assessments, not just lesson quizzes, and focus more on real world, scenario based questions with clear rubrics. Overall, it shifted my thinking... assessments aren’t just for grading, they’re there to guide learning the entire way.
Overall, this module reinforced that effective online assessment is not only about measuring but also about supporting and enhancing it, which align with my goals of fostering critical thinking and meaningful engagement, in my courses.
Comment on Andrea Santos's post: I agree that the worksheets were very helpful in directing lesson plans. These will come in handy this semester.
I was reminded of the importance and effectiveness of pre-assessments. Identifying where a student is academically helps predict the level of support they may need and allows the instruction to tailor instruction more effectively. Another topic I found particularly interesting was the consideration of online testing as open-book assignments, which I support. When combined with scenario-based questions, this approach can discourage cheating while still promoting critical thinking and application of knowledge
I have learned how to review assessments effectively and without bias. I found the information useful on how to keep students engaged when using online learning techniques. I like the idea of incorporating different methods of learning for the students as well. I intend to incorporate these things by expanding on more case studies and real-world scenarios when possible.
I love these worksheets and will use them as a tool to keep notes on strategies to identify plagiarism. The sample lesson plan helps to emphasize the various methods for evaluation
This part discuss about the assessment and how we can use it and change it to be beneficial to the students
I learned that using online assesssments can revolutionize course structure and help with better comprehension and better retention of the material
The topic of 'Effective Online Assessment' has really expanded my understanding, especially about the importance of using different types of assessments to support online learning. I've learned how diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments can help organize learning, and I plan to include scenario-based questions and voice feedback to make assessments more personal. I also think using proctoring tools and varying questions is essential to ensure academic integrity.
In this module, I learned how important it is to use different types of assessments to support online learning. Diagnostic tools like surveys or pre tests help us understand students’ prior knowledge. Formative assessments, such as discussions and assignments, keep students engaged and help them take responsibility for their learning. Providing regular feedback is key for their improvement.
I also learned about the challenges of online assessments, like limited technology or the risk of cheating. To address this, we can use tools like open book timed tests, different test versions, and require cameras during presentations. I plan to include scenario based questions and voice feedback to make assessments more effective and personal.
This topic was great to expand on thoughts of assessments. Understanding that assessing needs to be done at different times for different reasons. Learning how to organize the assessments by Diagnostic, Formative, and Summative was great for organizing my thought process.
This assessment taught me a fresher way of approaching how to measure students' comprehension bu using case-cased based scenarious. This methos has been documented to evalaluate comprehension using a higher level of learning/cognition from the student by utilizing and application of the concepts learned insteas of only using recall.
