The student who needs attention good or bad

I have had students that just do things and disrupt to get your attention. Once they have your personal attention they are fine. However, they cannot always have your undevided attention. On the other end, the student who constantly needs your approval and reinforcement that they are doing everything correct can be just as much trouble.

I have seen students who think that they can exhibit bad behavior in class for attention. Instead of focusing on their bad behavior I will often make an announcement about proper behavior and professionalism. Usually this helps the poorly behaving students to realize this will not be tolerated. Also, i mention how we are now in a professional environment, not a classroom. Would they behave this way at a job?

Hi Gina,
I like the speil! The disruptive student gets it, I am sure; and the other students are grateful you gave the talk.
