"fast" learners and "slow" learners
I am teaching computer software like photoshop or illustrator. Some students learn really fast by watching one time of demonstration but some students need to see again and again. I cannot keep staying at one demo to make them understand. I need to keep moving..sometimes I cannot finish shat I need to teach in class. What can I do..?
Hello!
When I teach computer courses, I use the projector to demonstrate to the entire class what we are doing. For those who grasp the concepts quickly, I let them sit with those who do not grasp the concepts as quickly. It seems that when the student's peers are helping them, they try to learn the material more readily. It is sort of like, well, if my peers can understand this, surely so can I. I also do this in my regular classes. I have the students sit in groups. I tell them that one may be stronger in one area, while another might be stronger in another area, and this way they can help one another out. I hope this helps you!!
I agree with Coleen. I also demonstrate computer tutorials to the entire class. It is definitely helpful for classmates to assist those students who are having difficulty with the concepts. I also give the students who are more advanced the option to move ahead and ask questions as needed. Seems to be working out ok.
In a clinical situation, I encourage the students to participate in the learning experience of a less experienced student. The student often feels less threatened or pressured when working with another accomplished student as opposed to the instructor.
I have adopted the fast learner now becoming the class helper. This method has being successful in that IT promotes teamwork.
