I had never heard the term syllogism before - I learned something new. I enjoyed this topic as critical thinking is not a skill that most of my students come well-equipped with ... means it is at the forefront of how I approach teaching and learning. Unfortunately, sometimes in today's world, asking questions [to further one's understanding] is not always welcomed.
Critical thinking plays a major role!
I learned that critical thinking is about more than just analyzing information—it’s about asking the right questions, challenging assumptions, and making well-reasoned decisions. It helps us see situations from different perspectives and separate facts from opinions or emotions. Developing this skill is valuable in any field because it leads to better problem-solving and stronger communication. I plan to apply this by taking more time to evaluate information before acting and by encouraging others to think through situations logically instead of reacting on impulse.
I have learn how important is to stimulate students’ critical thinking by asking them probing questions. Likewise, students should cultivate critical thinking by questioning ambiguous situations, rather than accepting them at face value.
Critical thinking is valuable because it empowers the learner to become an independent thinker who can solve problems, make sound decisions, and evaluate information critically in a world filled with complexity and misinformation. It strengthens problem-solving skills, promotes creativity, and fosters lifelong learning.
By helping students use logic it is important to help guide them on how to ask questions to gather the truth.
Critical Thinking allows better understanding and encourages effective communication. It sharpens the decision making and improves self awareness and improves overall self esteem.
In this section of the critically thinking module, we learned what critical thinking actually is and that we need to use it in our every day lives as much as Socrates used it back then. It is important to know the whole truth and actually think about the concept, rather than going off of someone's word. We can apply this to students through the idea of misconceptions.
Critical thinking is a skill that helps a person evaluate information, make better aguments, and help in decisions. With critical thinking, we go deeper into thoughts, ponder assumptions, and seek informantion on various opnions before we come to a conclusion.

Critical thinking occurs when the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing it. CTE courses allow for students to develop real critical thinking/problem solving skills.
Critical thinking is developed in both the classroom and the clinical venues. Past knowledge and new knowledge obtained with probing questions and case scenarios allows for the students to integrate what they have learned.
Students develop critical thinking by engaging them in the classroom and asking robing questions. This allows them to recall valuable information from previous courses as well as integrate their new knowledge.
190k journals published a month and 70k books a year- I wish they would have the reference for that or they are just guessing/estimating?
"Critical thinking - about any subject, content, or problem - occurs when the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing it." - I often see all courses claim that they train critical thinking. One attribute that is missing from this definition is authenticity. I might argue that critical thinking only applies to reality. Mental gymnastics for arbitrary systems or concepts is not critical thinking.
I liked that comparisons were made to child development and some good advertisements were used as examples. Critical thinking skills are under developed in our current students. Development of critical thinking has been a focus for our faculty in the last 5 years. Nice to read the information about the value of critical thinking and the characteristics of critical thinkers. Developing the students' critical thinking in the classroom will help them to better perform their responsibilities in the workforce.
The notion of Critical Thinking as a valuable process to further help develop and refine a system is something that students will enjoy learning.
math problems in my class often have extra information. it is very challenging to teach the critical thinking necessary to recognize what info is useful and what is not.
I ask my students on what critical thinking means to them and encourage them to start applying critical thinking into their clinical setting.
While we all need time to gather info and make decisions, there has to be a limit to that. This can sometimes be difficult and can become "analysis paralysis." We fail to decide because we feel like we haven't gained all the info we need to make the decision and need more time. The fact is we will never have "all the info." If we did, we would be gods. I liked the advertisement examples and have often fallen for those things. There arer times when I catch something that can't possibly be true, but often times I fall, for the emotion of it or being part of the bandwagon.
