Storytelling during lecture

I find it interesting that students remember the stories I tell them in the classroom.  I've learned to lecture in a story-telling way where the content is being delivered in a story format.

This sounds like a great idea!! Could you elaborate or give a content example of how you would use it in a story?

My story telling usually involves a real example of what actually happened with a piece of equipment or doing  a test. I'm teaching a lab class. One example was when my brother damaged and injured his shoulder while lifting weights. The class is studying rad. testing/studies  and I shared the rad. test that he had done before actually having the surgery and what rad. tests and studies was done after surgery. I try to bring the real world into my class room so that the students understand how important it is to be accountable for ones action, how to work with a team, and how important little things are, even if it's just a smile, touch or saying thank you to the patient. I want them to learn that there's no "I" in the word team.

when you tell a story to help students understand something, you bring that lack of understanding to a level that they can compare it too.  I take a mystery and shows how its real even in life.

This most certainly works best in my classroom as students tend to recall live "patient" examples better. I am also able to have the time to use examples in my teaching if i "flip the classroom" beforehand
