Ask a question from your peers to help you in your professional work. Seek different points of view on a topic that interests you. Start a thought-provoking conversation about a hot, current topic. Encourage your peers to join you in the discussion, and feel free to facilitate the discussion. As a community of educators, all members of the Career Ed Lounge are empowered to act as a discussion facilitator to help us all learn from each other.

Informed discussion

This again comes back to asking the student open ended questions to have them open up and really express their needs. Sometimes students have never been exposed to this because they haven't really had anyone in their life who has cared. As an admissions person, we must have a way of showing understanding and compassion

Qualified Students

We have a assessment test that we give all of our prospective students, that they must have a certain score for the particular program they are going into to qualify for that program. As admissions reps we try to engage the prospective students into conversations to uncover their needs and wants and why they feel that the program they are looking into will be best for them.

staying up-to-date and compliant

In the state where I will be certified, (and the only state where I will act as an agent)I have added the state's board of career colleges and schools website to my "favorites" on the web portal I use. Instead of waiting for updates to be "handed-down", I can periodically check the website for changes or additions made to stae laws and rules.

programs of interest

At the school that I am associated with, agents must supply prospective students with TWO potwential programs of interest. This allows the student to choose, or compare several areas of study. If the prospective student does not wish to be presented with additional information concerning the second area of interest, at least he or she had the OPPORTUNITY to view an additional program.

acceptance of credits

I was suprised to learn that to be compliant a school MUST state it's policy concerning the acceptance of credits. At the school I am associated with, we are required to state that the transferability of credits is made at the discretion of the receiving institution. That statement covers both credits received by the institution I am currently employed and transferability of credit FROM the institution to another institution.

New ADA

As a new ADA I am very curious if there is any significant marketing or success using social media?

Agent Marketing

Are there certain types of marketing that have been proven to work more consistently than others?

Staying Up to Date and compliant

It is essential to stay compliant. Being non-compliant will cause us to misinform our students and will be not be giving correct information to our students and will get us a bad name as well as we will loose our accreditation. And not to mention get you on the other side of the door.

Understanding your institution

It is very essential to know your school and all the different departments your school has to offer. You want to leave a potential student feeling that they are excited about enrolling that they have made the best choice possible for their future. So it is best to stay knowledgeable of all the different careers associated with the different programs so when the potential student asks you, you will be able to tell them the different fields that they will be able to go into once they have completed their degree.

The Admission Process and Paperwork

The admissions process is a very important step that is where we discuss the process for entering the school and make sure that all of the paperwork is completed and explained to the student in detail. Setting clear expectation with your student on what is involved and what will be required of them always makes for a better experience. Of course you cannot set those expectation unless you fully understand the paper work involved, why it is needed and explain things clearly to your student to ensure they understand.

Accrediting Agencies

We are contemplating seeking accreditation as an institution, and currently offer allied health diploma programs. Does anyone have any insight/advice on choosing among the following accrediting bodies: ACCSC, ACCET, ACICS?

What works?

This is my first experience as a new ADA. I am learning the tricks of the trade from my co-workers and reviewing all of our marketing materials. Is there any specific marketing piece you tend to push more than others? And why?

Job Placement

At our school we have around 200 plus student and we ask a lot of of them why did you choose us and they reply the job placement activity is great. We see alot of grads not looking for jobs right away. We try to place student before they leave. It is getting harder with young people today. They just do not want to work. 70% of our students do want ot work, butthe other 30% care less. How as a scool do we change that? I do not think we can. What does anybody else think? Bob

Compliance and Integrity

From the stand point of being a recruiter at a highly known school. If I did not know what our school is about. How would I do my job as recuiter and how could someone not know and try to openly commuticate to other people? Where would my school be??? We as a school would not be here and I would not have a job. Bob

Utilizing Social Networking Sites

I'm curious if anyone has found the best way to incorporate youtube to promote their school; and if anyone has found twitter to be helpful for adult students?

Notebook and staying up to date

I see the notebook as a fluid document. As rules change, we need to be as current as possible. I would imagine it is also important to dispose of dated material.

All schools, for profit or non, should have to disclose placement rate

I think it is terrific that for profit schools have to disclose placement rates. It keeps our eyes on the end results: launching students into the workforce. Ironically, non-profit schools are not held to this standard. It would be interesting to see how not for profit and for profit schools compare in placement rates.

New to Higher Education

I recently changed my entire career path to pursue a dream of mine. I have always desired working for a university. I have been hired as the Director of Admissions, and would appreciate any guidance or advice that will prepare me for my new career.

Transfer of credits

This has been nice to see the exact specifics of transferring credits. As an institution it is easy to say we cannot guarantee that we will accept all credits, but this gives us a chance to prove why.

Social Networking

This has been a good chance for me to see exactly how to handle our Social Networking. This has been a good opportunity.
